A familiar secret beneath Karazhan has disappeared from WoW Forever. Players have discovered that the hole used to reach the area beneath the iconic tower has been removed during the beta.
The change was highlighted in a Reddit post, where players shared the discovery and discussed the loss of the hidden route.
A Hidden Secret Disappears
The hole was a popular curiosity for explorers who enjoyed finding hidden details around Azeroth. It led beneath Karazhan to a smiley face on the ground, a small Easter egg that players often showed to newcomers and friends (myself included!).
Although the entrance has been filled in, the smiley face itself is reportedly still there. Players have noted that it can still be seen using certain camera tricks, despite the usual route being gone.
The removal is a small change in the WoW Forever beta, but it marks the end of a familiar route for players who knew about the hidden area. With the usual entrance gone, reaching the smiley face is no longer as straightforward. The route has already been patched up in Retail WoW and Mists of Pandaria Classic for a while, but it is still available on The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. It wouldn’t be surprising, though, if players found additional ways to get underneath the tower once again.
Could Karazhan Be Getting New Content?
The removal has also sparked speculation about Karazhan’s future in WoW Forever. Some players believe the change could be connected to new content, with suggestions ranging from adding the Karazhan Crypts dungeon from Season of Discovery (SoD), to a full new raid inside the tower!
Blizzard previously introduced Karazhan Crypts as a new dungeon in SoD, while Retail WoW has also revisited the tower with the Return to Karazhan dungeon in Legion. Players have also argued that new content in Karazhan could be completely instanced and the change is unrelated, but that this is interesting speculation nonetheless.
It’s very exciting to theorycraft what will happen to this legendary landmark in WoW Forever. There has not, however, been any official confirmation that the removed hole is connected to future content. Right now, the unusual entrance is gone, and players are left wondering what might come next!
