+10 Keys Are Easier Than Ever But Fewer Players Are Logging In

The seventh week of Mythic+ in this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. Weekly totals clearly dropped after the dungeon event week. A 10-15% weekly drop is the standard during mid-season. The 19% drop this week was to be expected. After the Fellowship test, the activity in higher keys has gone up again. Though right now, people are most likely waiting for the Turbo Boost to push further with upgrades on their strongest items. And with all eyes on Alpha and preparation for Beta, it seems there is no time left to adjust Ara-Kara tuning once more.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The drop-off for the four regular regions was 20.06%. Globally, the value was 18.90%, and for China alone, 17.65%. These values are a bit smaller than usual for weeks following a dungeon event. Early numbers for week 8 are showing a much lower drop-off once again, similar to weeks 4 to 6. But once Legion Remix and Turbo Boost are out, it’ll be interesting to see if focus on higher keys can outperform the general interest in Remix. In addition, the crest cap will also be removed a few weeks later, which feels a bit unnecessary.

China continues to dominate global numbers. 49% of all keys last week were finished over there. The trend of a slower decline in activity continues. So with or without Turbo Boost, they should be getting past 50% soon. But it’s unclear how strong the Legion Remix hype is among Chinese players.

Total Runs Across All Dungeons

The overall split has widened a bit. Interest in Ara-Kara has decreased once more. A clear sign that the developers haven’t stepped in. The order of favorability hasn’t changed, though. In parts, it reflects the success rates. Streets might still feel daunting as a 5-boss dungeon, especially on Tyrannical-first weeks.

The overall success rate jumped up by 1.46 percentage points to 85.11%. All dungeons improved this week, some more, some less. Eco-Dome is still leading with 90.50%. Gambit (89.31%) is close behind, with Streets (88.26%) following in a similar distance. Halls is now firmly sitting at 86.87%, which goes to show that a major tuning attempt can turn things around.

The Lower Half

There is a clear chasm here towards the upper half. Dawnbreaker did okay with 83.47% while Priory (82.81%) once again got a massive bump due to Tyrannical being active first on lower keys. Operation: Floodgate (80.80%) is also a potential candidate for tuning updates. But it was still performing a lot better than Ara-Kara. The dungeon ranks dead last at 76.41%, more than 4 points behind. It’s surprising this hasn’t been addressed yet.

Split Across All Key Levels

78.60% of all keys were done at key level 10 and higher. 31.96% at key level 10 alone. The first value is once again dragged up by Chinese metrics, where we saw 84.70% at 10 and higher. The focus on level 12 keys continued to increase, more than doubling the activity of level 11. The split has clearly shifted towards higher keys again. Compared to the previous dungeon week (6), the lack of lower keys has reduced activity on those levels by up to 39% in relative and up to 50% in absolute numbers.

The success rates went up at almost every key level. Voidbound, as an easier affix, was responsible for this in low keys. Higher keys continue to benefit from general gear progression and the return of players who dabbled with Fellowship before. But at the very top end, players are likely to hold up until major Turbo Boost benefits kick in. In comparison, S3 is still progressing quite well. Seasons 1 and 2 only reached key levels 18 and 19 in week 7.

The key level jump from 6 to 7 and 9 to 10 couldn’t be more different. With Tyrannical active at level 7, success rates dropped by 7.62 points. This drop can hit new players hard and might be discouraging. Meanwhile, 90% of the level 10 keys were in time. Level 9 isn’t too far behind with 83.69%, but nowhere near as much of a steamroll.

Conclusion and Week 7 Forecast

The developer’s focus is clearly on Midnight content, especially when the crackdown on addons is coming. But there should be one more tuning pass within the next few weeks to smooth out the experience towards the end of the season. Ara-Kara is almost ready to join City of Threads as the black sheep of a season.

As of this writing, 125 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers are only slightly behind. Between 5% and 7% for the three major regions. With Turbo Boost partially starting in week 9, the focus towards higher keys for vendor and crafting unlocks might keep the numbers stable.
