A New Top Group, Tank and Healer Shifts: The Most Played, Best Performing Specs and Groups in Mythic+ for 12.0.5, Week 4

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We finally have a week without looming tuning, so we can focus solely on the meta as it stands now. Things are still moving around plenty, especially the top group compositions, and the tank tuning has stirred things up in the popularity charts as well.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

While the top two specs fell off, the Paladin losing just a tiny bit (0.1%) and the Druid a bit more (0.3%), we see a big change in third already, as Unholy rises up to the tune of two spots and 0.5%! Beast Mastery remains stable as Demonology swaps slots with the Death Knight, dropping 0.3%. Frost Mage grabs a spot from Brewmaster, which dropped the most this week after the tank tuning, 0.8% down. It’s not all bad news for Monks, however, as Mistweaver moves two spots up into 9th, with a large 0.9% push.

Runs by Key Level

We have some completed 23s this week, and they already have solid diversity, with around 13 specs participating!

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

We immediately see where Mistweaver’s leap comes from, as it’s secured a spot for itself in the top comp! The No.1 group is almost entirely different from last week’s, replacing Resto Shaman with the Monk, the Ret Pala with a Devourer, and the Demo Lock with an Aug Evoker, only keeping the tank and Unholy DK. The former top group didn’t go too far, however, as it finds itself less than a percent away in 2nd place. The Brewmaster variant of group No.2 drops to third place, and Beast Mastery finds its way in with the 4th one, taking Demo’s slot.

Mythic+ DPS Logs

The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.

95th percentile DPS

While the group compositions shifted significantly, the overall spec performance did not. We have to go down to No.5 to see the first shift here, where Outlaw dropped a couple of spaces, leaving Demo to grab a spot. In No.6 we have the story of the week, as Retribution climbs 4 spots as it moves its performance ever closer to its popularity. Frost DK drops down into the bottom 3, as Marksmanship moves significantly out of there.

All Percentiles

Arms is pushing up even higher in the general bracket, taking 4th away from Demonology. Ret has a lot less to climb here to secure that 6th spot, up from 7th, pushing Survival down. Assassination and Outlaw drop a few spots as Shadow and Enhancement move up, with the Priest making the top 10.

Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers

Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+16-23) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.

Devourer takes down Demonology for 2nd, while most of the top 10 remains very stable, Subtlety being the only other mover, gaining one spot in 10th.
