Big Post-Tuning Changes: Most Played and Best-Performing DPS Specs in the Raids, Week 7

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We have a massive shift in the DPS rankings after the big tuning pass, both in Mythic and Heroic. We are also switching to Mythic on top as the focus, as we enter week 8 of the raids going live. The most played specs remained very stable, despite the performance dramatically changing in the logs themselves, so let’s see what’s happened.

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Mythic

Most Played Specs

The top spec remained the same since last we checked in, and it grabbed another 3K players while it’s at it. Despite the tuning and everything else in between, the most played stats are very set in the raid. In fact, we have to go all the way down to 8th place for the first change, where Fury manages to take down Elemental. Subtlety is the next mover, just outside the top 10, where it took Shadow’s place. Devastation is back in the bottom 3, as Frost DK manages to move out towards the middle of the pack.

Overall Damage 95th Percentile

We have a new No.1 here, as expected, as the only tuning-untouched spec in the top 3 moves to the very top. Frost DK and Windwalker move up into the top 3 after the tuning, with a double-Warlock team-up behind them. Frost Mage didn’t fall down quite as much as the rest, grabbing 7th ahead of a skyrocketing Subtlety. Outlaw closes out the top 10, just ahead of Arms. We still have two Mages in the bottom 3, but nobody beats Feral for the very bottom slot.

Overall Damage All Percentiles

The generalist bracket is a lot more stable as usual. We do see the top two mirror the top percentiles, but Frost Mage is still hanging on very well here, only dropping two spots into 3rd. Subtlety is the big winner here, leaping a colossal 13 spots into 4th. The rest of the top 10 is just a rearranged version of the top percentiles, with the exception of Unholy, which manages to hang on in 9th.

Boss Only Damage All Percentiles

We see Frost DK dominating here, with Unholy remaining very high as well. Subtlety also dramatically rises here, but it’s Affliction that got the biggest boost, a cool 16 spots up in 7th.

Individual Bosses

Lightblinded Vanguard (Voidspire)

Crown of the Cosmos (Voidspire)

Belo’ren (March on Quel’Danas)

Midnight Falls (March on Quel’Danas)

Heroic

Most Played Specs

We do see a big change earlier here, as Beast Mastery rises two spots into 4th. Fury is also on an upwards trajectory, moving past Elemental into 7th.

Overall Damage All Percentiles

Survival was already on top in Heroic and it remains there, but Subtlety is giving it a run for its money, moving two spots up just ahead of a skyrocketing Frost DK, with a 15-spot leap under its belt. Frost Mage and Unholy only drop two spots post-nerf, while Affliction makes it all the way up to 6th from the bottom 3! Speaking of the bottom 3, the other two Mages are back there again, this time joined by Feral as the two Warlocks vacate the premises.
