For many fans inside and outside of Anaheim Convention Center, BlizzCon 2026 was a complete success: StarCraft Dominion, Diablo 5, Warcraft Forever – Blizzard most definitely cooked. However, hosting such a massive event every year, as it once was the norm, could be a thing of the past.
Slasher Suggests BlizzCon Won’t Return Before 2028
Rod “Slasher” Breslau, game journalist and consultant with historically close ties to Blizzard Entertainment, mentioned in a tweet that BlizzCon probably won’t come back in 2027:
This is not an official cancellation, of course – but it supports an ongoing industry trend away from regular public conventions and toward digital events.
Big Announcements, Long Waits
Another possible piece of context is the release windows of Blizzard’s new game announcements: Spring 2029 for Diablo 5 and even 2030 for StarCraft Dominion. Game development consumes more and more time, and the same goes for event organization. Of course, a year without a BlizzCon wouldn’t result in a year without announcements, as we’ve been promised more info about several games, including WoW’s Last Titan expansion, early next year.
Would fans prefer an annual gathering or longer breaks between much bigger BlizzCons?
