Only nine more sleeps before BlizzCon – and Blizzard is firing up the hype machines: The official StarCraft website has begun randomly glitching. Reddit user u/RaiausderDose also discovered interesting website details including records from August 2575 – potentially decades beyond the known StarCraft storyline.
Intended Malfunctions On starcraft.blizzard.com
The glitch on StarCraft’s official website is fully intended: The website’s code fetches a transmission, activates an RGB glitch effect, clears the “developer console”, and gradually shows classified records. Over time, repeated requests return different combinations of material; so far, at least eight distinct message fragments have been identified.
What Has Been Found So Far
So far, eight messages in the form of StarCraft lore bits have appeared:
- Theta Squadron is traveling to the Roxara Lunar Mining Complex.
- A freighter is delivering crates described as pivotal to unspecified research.
- A Banshee cargo manifest carries “Orders 556-217” and thousands of items.
- A sensor station with power deactivated and grid at 2% registers zero occupants – but detects 14.
- Two redacted medical records appear over two hours apart.
- User 2560037-DA accesses recovered communications with “L Clearance.”
- Another binary message asks who is involved with “Special Order 176” and receives an insufficient-clearance response.
- A separate login attempt results in the user being flagged and instructed to contact the Dominion service desk.
Roxara – A Setting 67 Years in the Future?
Roxara is an existing place in StarCraft lore. Roxara’s moon, which previously hosted a secret Dominion changeling experiment, was mentioned in a StarCraft II short story called Changeling, but also in a novel’s timeline of a StarCraft: Ghost – the StarCraft tactical shooter game that was indefinitely postponed in 2006 and cancelled in 2014.
The website teasers repeatedly mention the year 2575. If this is intended as canonical StarCraft dating, it would happen around 67 years after the endpoint of the StarCraft II era. As a result, the overall fantasy and technology of StarCraft could still be in place while a potential new title in the series would be able to introduce a whole new cast of characters – after all, the website teasers also mention several partially redacted names such as F. C, T. W, and S. V.
Explosive Teaser Timing
Also, this teaser couldn’t come at a better time: BlizzCon is right around the corner, and the recent reports about a potential StarCraft partnership between Nexon and Blizzard support the general claim that a StarCraft shooter could headline BlizzCon.
We still don’t know what’s hiding on Roxara – but nine days before BlizzCon, Blizzard clearly wants all StarCraft fans searching for it!
