Like the past few seasons, Blizzard is following their formula of a 39 item level increase. A current piece of 6/6 Myth gear is equivalent to Veteran 6/6 next season. 298 gear, acquired from the Ascendant Voidcores and Mythic Sporefall, are equivalent to 1/6 Hero next season.
Crests Types
Just like Season One there’s five different crest types. One for each track:
Adventurer Mistcrest – Used to upgrade Adventurer equipment in Midnight Season 2 up to item levels 263-276. Earned from repeatable outdoor events and Tier 4 Delves.
Veteran Mistcrest – Used to upgrade Veteran equipment in Midnight Season 2 up to item levels 276-289. Earned from repeatable outdoor events, Raid Finder: The Venomous Abyss, Heroic Season Dungeons, Tiers 5 to 6 Delves, and Trovehunter’s Bounty (Tiers 4 to 5).
Champion Mistcrest – Used to upgrade Champion equipment in Midnight Season 2 up to item levels 289-302. Earned from weekly outdoor events, Normal: The Venomous Abyss, Mythic Season Dungeons, Mythic Keystone Dungeons (+2 to +3), Tiers 7 to 10 Delves, and Trovehunter’s Bounty (Tiers 6 to 7).
Hero Mistcrest – Used to upgrade Hero equipment in Midnight Season 2 up to item levels 302-315. Earned from Heroic: The Venomous Abyss, Mythic Keystone Dungeons (+4 to +8), Tier 11 Delves, and Trovehunter’s Bounty (Tiers 8 and up).
Myth Mistcrest – Used to upgrade Myth equipment in Midnight Season 2 up to item levels 315-328. Earned from Mythic: The Venomous Abyss, and Mythic Keystone Dungeons (+9 and up).
Endgame Gearing Changes in 12.1, Upgrade System Scales Like in Beta
Blizzard highlighted massive changes coming to endgame gearing with Patch 12.1, and the upgrade system is seeing some changes as well.
In the beta, Blizzard implemented scaling costs of crests. Each level of the upgrade track required an additional 10 crests. That has returned on the PTR.
Blizzard eventually moved away from that to the 20 crests per level that we see on live. We’ll have to see if this change sticks, or if Blizzard will keep the system how it is on live.
