Most Played and Best Performing Mythic+ Specs and Groups of the New 12.0.5 Patch

It’s time for new patch data! 12.0.5 has been here almost a full reset and the class tuning has taken effect, so let’s dive into the most played and best performing specs! Brewmaster is going from strength to strength while Paladins dominate the popularity charts still, and there’s plenty of movement in the DPS logs as well.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

Retribution has risen even further up the popularity charts, which isn’t saying much since it was already on top before its 0.5% bump over the past couple of weeks. The No.2 is entirely new, however, as the (relatively small) nerfs to the best tank did nothing to dampen its popularity. Brewmaster gained a full 1% since last we checked, despite the other tanks getting some buffs recently as well. The previous silver medal holder, Frost Mage, has dropped considerably, five spots down into 7th, in fact. Demonology, on the other hand, holds firm, as do the next three specs, with the 1-spot bump from the Mage’s downfall. Outlaw manages to escape the bottom 3, doubling its playerbase to 0.6%. Devastation takes its place, joining Frost DK and Fire Mage.

Runs by key level

We have some regular +22 runs, as 12 specs completed the highest key in Midnight so far. 21s see a lot more spec diversity, but pretty much the same amount as 22s in larger numbers.

And here are the full numbers, including the amount of runs.

Group Composition Popularity

Frost Mage has truly fallen out of favor, going from 3 slots in the top 4 groups to only appearing from No.6 onwards. The top comp sees Augmentation take the Mage’s slot, joining Brewmaster, Resto Druid, Unholy, and Demonology. It’s also around 0.3% more popular than the version with Frost Mage from a reset ago. The second group sees a brand new face in the top slots, as Devourer joins the same comp as the No.1 group, taking Demonology’s place. Resto Shaman and Ret Paladin bust in in 3rd, with Ret taking Augmentation’s slot from group No.1.

Mythic+ DPS Logs

The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.

95th percentile DPS

Meanwhile, the actual performance in the logs is very stable between patches. There is one change in the top 3, but it’s just Devourer and Demonology going at it, as they’re constantly neck-and-neck, and the DH got the better of the Warlock this time around. Arms did the same to Assassination in 5th, and in 7th we have our first big mover, as Feral moves three spots up. Retribution is also performing better, also getting a 3-spot bump, just ahead of two more big movers. Survival and Outlaw take a huge leap together, both skyrocketing 10 spots into 9th and 10th! And while Demo is having the time of its life, the other two Warlock specs are down in the dumps, joining Devastation in the bottom 3.

All Percentiles

Retribution’s high popularity shows here in the generalist bracket, as it’s sitting in a more respectable 6th. Survival is also higher here, and Frost didn’t drop quite as far, managing to remain in the top 10. Elemental also sees a steep drop, 4 spots down into 10th.

Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers

Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+16-22) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.

Demonology and Devourer outperform Unholy and Augmentation in the very high key raw DPS charts, and Paladin is also doing better than in the points-based logs. Outlaw and Survival improve here as well, with the Hunter gaining a lot more spots but only managing the bottom of the top 10. Windwalker is also showing great improvement, up 10 spots!
