Mythic+ Week 20 Data – The End of The Season Is Near and Players Need More Motivation Below the Title Cut-Off

The twentieth week of Mythic+ in this season is over and once again Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the data provided by Raider.IO. The Collector’s Bounty event is still going on and Mists of Pandaria Classic started just the day before the reset on July 21st. The total run numbers dropped by almost 6%. Activity in general once again dropped significantly for high keys below the 0.1% cut-off.

The updates for Chinese player data are quite irregular. Numbers for the earlier season are still seeing major updates from time to time. Next season we will hopefully get the full picture from the start. For now we will focus on the regular four regions. So let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

In the previous week (19) we saw next to no change compared to week 18. This time a drop of 5.93% is bringing the final weeks closer to an overall 80% drop across the entire season. TWW S1 looked almost exactly the same towards the end. Mists of Pandaria Classic might have had a decent impact with its release. We saw 5.35% less active characters from week 19 to 20. So this could be a part of the playerbase completely shifting towards MoP instead of just reducing their weekly M+ runs.

Total Runs Across All Dungeons

The split is once again almost unchanged. The order has shifted slightly for rank 3 to 7. Rookery and Meadery benefit from being so close to Dornogal. Meanwhile Theater of Pain has been the least popular dungeon since week 3 of the season. The overall in time percentage went up slightly.

86.30% is one of the highest rates for the season. Devour seems to be the best of the four rotating affixes. Most dungeons didn’t shift much compared to last week. Priory dropped off the most and this is clearly tied to large pulls becoming quite rough during Fortified weeks. An issue that the changes for Season 3 try to address. Theater of Pain with its five bosses once again benefits the most from not having Tyrannical up in lower keys levels.

Split Across All Key Levels

65% of all keys were done on the highest vault reward key level or higher. A slight decrease from last week. Lower key levels saw a slight shift with up to 4.27% more at key level 7 compared on a normalised split. This might be a sign of players securing 2,000 rating for KSM towards the end of the season.

Key levels 14 to 18 once again see a massive decrease in interest. With 17 and 18 having less total runs than key level 19. Up to 35% less total runs from week to week. One or two new reward levels for the players within the top 5% to top 1% would keep players more motivated. Key level 20 to 22 were the only ones seeing more total runs.

Conclusion And Early Numbers For Week 21

The end of the season for M+ itself is quite dire. Since push weeks no longer exist most players have reached their seasonal goal or limit within the first two thirds of the season. Other gameplay features or WoW versions can offer variety in general. But M+ clearly needs a few more long term incentives. Be it new cut-offs for extra rewards or future cosmetic rewards that could fit into housing. A .5 or .7 patch with new items could boost the motivation throughout the season.

As of this writing hourly numbers for week 21 are about 8% behind week 20. During the final week 22 participation might drop even lower. Players might just make sure to secure a bit more rating and the missing rewards.
