Renown and Vendor Rewards, Zone Talents, Corrosive Powers: New Coiled Isle Zone in 12.1 and Everything on It Detailed!

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We have the full preview of the new 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek zone! This one is a little beefier than usual, bringing with it not only the activities present, but also the rewards for them, as well as all the talents for the Altar of Corrosion!

The Coiled Isle brings a new faction with Zul’jarra’s forces, featuring 20 Renown ranks and plenty of rewards. From unlocking vendors to titles, mounts, and all the usual Renown rewards, it’s all listed below. Then we have The Vaults of Ula’tek, an outdoor group activity with its own set of rewards.

The Altar of Corrosion is a new zone-wide progression system, giving you additional power and utility for the Coiled Isle. It has a talent tree you can unlock and pick your bonuses. These are unlocked bia Corrosive Coins, which you can get throughout the zone, including in the Vaults. The buffs vary from seeing special enemies that can grant more rewards to increased damage, help in the Vaults, poison procs, and much more.

Then there’s the Corrosive Powers, which can be used in all outdoor Midnight content and Delves. You’ll be able to pick two once you collect 8 of them. To unlock them, you’ll need Corrosive Souls, acquired in various content from the Vaults to Prey, Curse Surges, and more. We also get a list of all the power below. And finally we get a look at the loot we can grab from a few vendors, with mounts, decor, pets, transmogs, and more.

The mists surrounding the Coiled Isle have parted, revealing a land steeped in ancient Amani history and deadly venomous dangers. As Zul’jarra presses on in pursuit of her brother, Zul’jan, you’ll venture into the island’s caustic depths, uncover its buried secrets, and aid her forces as they work to reclaim what was lost. Explore the Vaults of Atal’Utek, battle powerful foes during Curse Surges, strengthen yourself through the Altar of Corrosion, unlock rewards with Zul’jarra’s Forces, and discover the riches hidden within the isle’s cursed waters through a new fishing experience.

Pursue Zul’jan Into The Altar of Fangs Dungeon

Located within the Vaults of Atal’Utek, this three-boss dungeon carries players further into the ongoing story of Zul’jan and the treacherous path he treads in his bid for power beyond the loa.

alternate-image-name
Upon the Altar of Fangs, the ancient Amani sealed the vaults of Atal’Utek with the Fang of Ula’tek. Only that cursed dagger has the power to unseal the prison of the great weapon of the Amani. Aid Orweyna and Liadrin in their pursuit of Zul’jan, who has entered this accursed place in a misbegotten attempt to bring lost glory back to the Amani.

Bosses: 3
Location: Vaults of Atal’Utek, The Coiled Isle
Difficulties: Dungeon Follower, Normal, Heroic, Mythic

  • Ravi: This ravenous hydra has survived this cursed place through scavenging the meat of the fallen. That doesn’t mean it is not a fearsome combatant, eager to add some fresh temple explorers to its otherwise rotting diet.
  • The Writhing Coil: In the feeding frenzy upon each other, there has been one Child of Ula’tek that has proved victorious over the rest of the brood. With every battle won, the twisting monstrosity known as the Writhing Coil only grows stronger.
  • Zul’jan: With the Fang of Ula’tek, Zul’jan performs the final ritual to gain the power to release the monstrous weapon his ancestors sealed away thousands of years ago. Still held in sway of the spirit of Malacrass, Zul’jan is unaware that the Fang is also the only hope for his sister Zul’jarra’s survival.

The Vaults of Atal’Utek

Hidden beneath the Coiled Isle, the Vaults of Atal’Utek are an ancient Amani complex that serves as the heart of the island’s repeatable content and public events. Complete the quest, “Into the Vaults of Atal’Utek” from Warleader Abdumati to unlock access, then take part in Temple Patrols, Strikes, Incursions, and battles against Ancient Foes to earn Corrosive Souls, Trovehunter’s Bounty, Venom-Cursed Fragments, Corrosive Coins, and Renown with Zul’jarra’s Forces. It’s dangerous to go it alone, so you may want to make friends or bring a couple with you.

Amani Windcallers can help transport you around the Vaults and even use the wind to hide you temporarily from sight from hostile creatures as you travel through the caustic depths. As you progress through the Vaults of Atal’Utek, you can gain access to additional points making it easier to traverse over the pools of venom.

Unlock the Corrosive Codex

You’ll also unlock access to the Corrosive Codex at the Altar of Corrosion through a short questline beginning with the quest “Corrosive Gifts: Corrosive Power.” You’ll need the Codex of the Soul Coilers item first to begin the first quest.

Corrosive Powers can be unlocked in any order, allowing you to choose which options are active at any time. After unlocking eight Corrosive Powers, players will be able to have two powers active at once, empowering them to create powerful synergistic combinations.

These powers can be used in Midnight outdoor zones and within Delves. Players will also encounter a mysterious projection of the Altar of Corrosion within Midnight Delves once the system has been unlocked, allowing players to change and experiment with power combinations at the start of any of these Delves.

You’ll need to use Corrosive Souls to unlock Corrosive Powers. This currency can be obtained from a variety of outdoor activities including Vaults of Atal’Utek activities and bosses, the Prey boss, Ral’Kala, Curse Surges, the lair with Nymrissa Wavecaller, and through Bountiful Delves and Prey Hunts. They can either be spent at the Altar of Corrosion using the Corrosive Codex or given to the Skull of Er’inye vendor in exchange for Corrosive Coins.

  • Ophidian Maw: Damaging an enemy has a chance to call a giant snake that erupts from below, gnashing at the target’s location and dealing Nature damage split between nearby enemies.
Any Poisoned non-boss creature damaged below 20% health is executive.
  • Insidious Venom: Chance during combat to Poison yourself, lowering all of your Secondary and Tertiary Stats while greatly increasing your primary stat for 12 seconds.
  • Viperine Grasp: Your harmful spells and abilities have a chance to pull up to 2 nearby enemies to your current target’s location, dealing Nature damage to affected targets.
Up to 3 nearby Poisoned enemies are also pulled in.
  • Virulent Mucus: Upon entering combat, veil yourself in 5 layers of Virulent mucus, each stack negating an instance of incoming damage that would exceed 5% of your maximum health.
Dealing damage to a Poisoned enemy has a very low chance to grant you 1 additional layer of Mucus.
  • Mephistic Cloud: Chance during combat to apply Mephitic Cloud to nearby party members and enemies for 10 seconds.
Afflicted allies’ spells and abilities Poison their target, dealing Nature damage over 5 seconds while afflicted enemies’ spells and abilities additionally heal their target.
  • Accursed Poison: Chance during combat to inflict Accursed Poison on the strongest enemy, dealing Nature damage every 1 second for 1 minute.
The next time the afflicted target would cast an interruptible spell or ability, the Accursed Poison triggers, interrupting it immediately before removing itself.
  • Gorgoneion Gaze: Upon dropping below 50% health, petrify all enemies within 10 yards for 10 seconds. Petrified targets are stunned invulnerable.
When they break free, enemies are Poisoned, taking Nature damage every 1 second and slowed by 50% for 5 seconds.
  • Plague of Corrosion: Chance during combat to apply a stacking Poison to all nearby enemies, dealing Nature damage every 2 seconds for 1 minute.
On death, the Poison and its remaining duration are transferred to a new target.
  • Lithic Plumage: Taking damage has a chance to fortify you, reducing incoming damage by 75% up to cap.
The damage cap is increased for each nearby Poisoned enemy.
  • Miasma Geyser: Chance during combat to stir up a Miasma Geyser under a nearby unit that erupts after 10 seconds, dealing Nature damage split between enemy units while also healing all allies inside.
Poisoned units take increased damage and healing.
  • Ouroboric Cycle: Chance during combat to begin an Ouroboric Cycle, increasing all Tertiaries for 5 seconds, then all Secondaries for 5 seconds, then your primary stat for 5 seconds.
In this state, slaying an enemy causes 1 additional Cycle to occur after the last.
While you are Poisoned, each Cycle’s duration is extended by 1 second.
  • Ula’tek’s Gift: Your harmful spells and abilities have a chance to afflict your target with 5 stacks of Ula’Tek’s Gift, dealing Nature damage per application every 5 seconds for 1 minute.
While you are Poisoned, apply 5 additional stacks.
Upon applying 20 stacks to a target, the Gift Corrodes, dealing the remainder of its damage immediately before removing itself.

Face the Wrath of Curse Surges

Throughout the Coiled Isle, powerful waves of corruption known as Curse Surges sweep across the island, drawing dangerous foes from the cursed depths. These rotating public events occur at five locations around the isle and culminate in a battle against a powerful rare elite. Defeat these enemies to earn rewards, including Corrosive Souls and other valuable loot, while helping push back the corruption spreading across the region.

Each successful Curse Surge also opens a Cursed Fishing pool at that location, creating new opportunities to catch rare fish, gather unique resources, and further your standing with Captain Tokka’s Crew. Whether you’re hunting rewards, progressing your Renown with Zul’jarra’s Forces, or seeking materials for your next adventure, Curse Surges provide a recurring challenge that ties together many of the Coiled Isle’s activities.
