Goodbye Dawncrests, Hello Mistcrests
Mistcrests will be your new upgrade currency for Midnight Season 2. Similar to Dawncrests, Mistcrests come in five varieties:
Adventurer Mistcrest
Veteran Mistcrest
Champion Mistcrest
Hero Mistcrest
Myth Mistcrest
Mistcrest Sources in Midnight Season 2
Mistcrests can be found in most in-game activities, from open world events to raids. The main difference is the type of Mistcrest obtained.

Upgrading Gear with Mistcrests in Midnight Season 2
Every upgrade using Mistcrests has a fixed cost: 20 crests.
The type of crest required to upgrade depends on the item’s Item Track. You can identify the Item Track by looking at the item’s tooltip:
Each different track uses a different Mistcrest:
- Adventurer Track uses 20x Adventurer Mistcrest per upgrade
- Veteran Track uses 20x Veteran Mistcrest per upgrade
- Champion Track uses 20x Champion Mistcrest per upgrade
- Hero Track uses 20x Hero Mistcrest per upgrade
- Myth Track uses 20x Myth Mistcrest per upgrade
This means that to upgrade an item from 1/6 Adventurer to 6/6 it will cost you 100x Adventurer Mistcrest, while upgrade an item from 2/6 Hero to 4/6 Hero will cost you 40x Hero Mistcrest.
Increasing Cost Per Rank to Upgrade?
Early in the Patch 12.1 testing, gear had a scaling cost per rank to upgrade. However, soon after being discovered, Blizzard announced that this was a bug and not intentional.
Mistcrest Caps Per Week
You cannot earn an unlimited amount of Mistcrests per week. You’re gated to a global cap per week. This cap rises by 100 per week for each different type. If you fail to cap on crests one week, don’t worry, you can earn the missed crests the next week.
