The State of Azeroth brought some exciting announcements, from new roadmaps and updates to Player Housing, to WoW’s free Welcome Back Weekend. But the announcement that nobody saw coming was the “new standalone mode” coming after 12.1.
This new game mode comes from the same team that brought us Plunderstorm and the Remix events—so it’s safe to say we can expect great things. We don’t know much about this new event, but we might not be going into this completely in the dark.
A Spooky Secret
During PAX East last year, Associate Game Director, Jeremy Feasel, teased a new game mode. Whilst he didn’t give us a lot, he told us two things:
- It’s not a battle royale
- It leans into horror/scary storytelling
During Dragonflight, Blizzard’s SceneScripts included information about a Vampire Survival mode, with one of the SceneScripts named: “10.2.5 – VS Mode – Game Mode – Client Scene (OJF)”.
Could this be a Vampire Survivors-inspired game mode? You can check out the deep dive into all the evidence here. But until 12.1 and beyond, we’ll just have to (excitedly) wait and see!
