Rextroy is back with another broken PvP build in World of Warcraft: Midnight! This time, he is showing off with a Protection Warrior, as he is 1v2ing arenas at 100% dampening, climbing rating, and earning the
Challenger I: Midnight Season 1 achievement without a teammate.
How It Works
The whole build revolves around one specific honor talent:
Power Through Adversity, which makes
Shield Wall ignore healing reduction. At 100% dampening, every other player in the arena is essentially unable to heal. The Protection Warrior, however, is not.
Two PvE trinkets make the build nearly unkillable on top of that. The
Ultradon Cuirass provides a 500k absorb shield lasting a full minute, and the
Bark of the Guardian Tree adds another 300k absorb. Both ignore dampening when applied during Shield Wall, which then triggers
Second Wind, healing the warrior for 7% health per second.
The result is basically a full health reset with every Shield Wall, while the enemy healer can barely move their teammate’s health.
What Happens During a Match
The strategy is simply to stall until dampening is high enough, then outdamage whatever healing the enemy can still produce. As Rextroy said, a lot of players give up mid-arena.
The corner camping strategy also helps. This means blocking attacks from behind and forcing enemies to either kill themselves on critical blocks or wait out the clock.
It is not all smooth sailing, though. Frost Mages are a genuine weakness since they can kite and prevent rage generation. Healers doing more damage than their own DPS partners in the endgame scorecard is apparently also a recurring theme, which says a lot about the current state of PvP balance.
The Warlock Bug
Rextroy mentioned that Warlock’s
Dark Pact is currently bugged and ignores dampening entirely. Looking at the footage, the shield it generates at 95% dampening is enormous. It will probably not be long before that gets looked at by Blizzard.
