WoW Patch 12.1 May Send Players Into Midnight’s Troll Story

With Patch 12.0.7 releasing on June 16, 2026, our eyes now settle on Patch 12.1, Midnight’s first content and what to expect. In this post, we’re taking a closer look at everything we know about the update right now.

When Will Patch 12.1 Go Live?

The first real question is when will the update hit live servers and it’s really not that difficult to answer.

Turbulent Timeways is currently set to start on June 30 and ends August 11, which should coincide with Patch 12.1’s release date. I’m saying should because Blizzard obviously hasn’t confirmed anything here, but there have been cases in the past where events such as this one accurately predicted patch release dates.

What’s Coming in Patch 12.1?

We expect the Midnight campaign to continue with Season 2, new delves, an item level bump across the board, a new Mythic+ dungeon rotation, and a brand-new raid. Looking at the 2026 roadmap for WoW, we’re also getting a new zone, dungeon, world boss, and housing updates.

Will 12.1 Be a Troll Patch?

Atal’Utek is most likely the new zone coming in Patch 12.1. Currently, on live servers, there’s an island located northwest of Zul’Aman, and when you try entering it, you get teleported away.

A better look at the bridge leading from Zul’Aman to Atal’Utek.

For more details about the foe we’re going to be facing in Atal’Utek’s troll raid, I recommend you to read DiscordianKitty’s latest post.

Internal Builds and PTR Testing

We spotted the first signs of Patch 12.1 on one of Blizzard’s encrypted CDNs on May 6, where the build went from 12.0.5.67210 to 12.1.0.67382.

Since then, Blizzard internally released a couple of more builds : a minor update on May 7 and another one on May 13.

The latest internal build dates back to May 21, 2026.

While we cannot datamine its content, it’s pretty clear that Blizzard’s 12.1 development is moving at a steady pace and we expect the patch to hit Public Test Realms shortly after Patch 12.0.7 goes live, so after June 16, 2026.
