WoW Players Can Relax, Blizzard Isn’t Going Console Casual

With next-gen Xbox set to run Windows natively, World of Warcraft will be playable on console—but not until 2027. Recent changes, including major class reworks in Midnight and the new Single-Button Assistant, sparked speculation that Blizzard was making WoW more console-friendly. Those rumors, however, have now been shut down.

In a new interview, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas stressed that “focus remains on the PC-based experience.” While the game will run on next-gen Xbox, its core design and complexity will stay true to its roots. Players can expect the “skill ceiling [to] remain incredibly, incredibly high,” ensuring depth and mastery across all classes.

Blizzard continues to refine the game by trimming unnecessary complexity without touching core combat rotations. Abilities that are usually macroed together or depend on reminders like WeakAuras are being reviewed carefully—but only removed if they don’t impact meaningful gameplay or class identity.

This streamlining also follows the announcement that combat addons—such as WeakAuras—will no longer function in Midnight. To replace them, Blizzard is adding native UI features directly into the game, giving players access to essential combat tools without relying on third-party addons.
