Who Benefits From the New Zenless Zone Zero 2.7 Drive Discs?

With Version 2.7, Zenless Zone Zero is adding two new Drive Disc sets, and when you first look at them, they look like solid additions to the game. But as usual, the real question is not what they do, but more who really wants them. Because if you have been playing for a while, you already know how this goes! Some sets end up changing entire characters, but some others look good on paper but do not really fit anyone, at least not right away. That is exactly the case here.

One of these new sets finally gives Defense agents a proper, flexible option that is not locked behind specific mechanics, and it is immediately useful for a few current Agents. The other, however, feels a lot more like a future investment, with no obvious best user in the current roster.

Bunny in Wonderland – Finally a Real Defense Set

Bunny in Wonderland is rather straightforward and can pretty much be seen as a better Proto Punk:

  • 2-Piece: HP +10%
  • 4-Piece: Teamwide DMG buff (up to 18%) triggered by EX Special Attacks or defensive/evasive assists, but for Defense characters only

This is the first time we are getting a Drive Disc set that actually feels designed for Defense agents as a whole, instead of just niche shield interactions. Up until now, most Defense units were stuck running support sets like Astral Voice or Swing Jazz, or very specific options like Proto Punk that only really worked for shield-focused kits. Outside of Caesar and Seth, the other Defense characters were not benefiting from it since they did not really have shields.

Who Benefits the Most?

  • Zhao – The set is called Bunny in Wonderland, so if this is not a sign that it is Zhao’s Best-in-slot, I do not know what is. Everything in this set lines up perfectly with her kit. HP scaling + easy stack generation = full value.
  • Pan Yinhu – Likely a straight upgrade. He struggles to maintain Astral Voice stacks consistently, so this gives him a much more reliable team buff.
  • Seth Lowell – It is an upgrade, but at a cost. You trade ATK% (and stronger shields) for more team damage. Worth it if you lean support-heavy, less so if you rely on shielding.
  • Caesar King – Same situation as Seth. If you already have a strong Proto Punk setup, it is probably not worth rebuilding. This is more of an alternative playstyle than a must-switch.
  • Ben Bigger – Technically better, but does not fix his issues. He can use it, and the team buff is nice, but it will not suddenly make him meta.

This set is basically excellent for Zhao and future Defense agents, and a very solid upgrade for Pan Yinhu. For older units, it is more of a “nice if you are rebuilding anyway” situation rather than something you need to farm immediately.

Notes from the Chained – Waiting for Its Owner

Notes from the Chained is a lot more specific, especially the 4-piece bonus:

  • 2-Piece: Ice DMG +10%
  • 4-Piece:
    • Trigger Abloom gets +48 Anomaly Proficiency
    • Trigger Freeze gets a +16% Anomaly DMG & Disorder DMG

On paper, this is clearly an Ice Anomaly set. In practice… There is just one really tiny problem. Which Ice Anomaly character? Right now, the only Ice Anomaly candidate is Hoshimi Miyabi, but the set is really not made for her. Miyabi does not behave like most Anomaly agents. She scales heavily with CRIT stats, and that makes her current builds hard to replace. The new set leans fully into Anomaly scaling instead, and this means that the new set will not beat her current best-in-slot at all.

So Who Is This For?

At the moment, no existing Ice agent really wants the full 4-piece bonus. That leaves only two likely explanations:

  • Future balance changes for Miyabi
  • A new Ice Anomaly agent is coming

A lot of players are betting on the second option with Promeia being the most common guess.

Zenless Zone Zero Promeia
ZZZ Promeia Leak

She has not been officially confirmed as playable yet, but if she is Ice Anomaly and releases in 2.8, this set would line up perfectly. That would also match HoYoverse’s usual pattern of releasing BiS gear one patch early.

Right now, this set is mostly a wait-and-see.

The problem with Zenless Zone Zero is that those two Drive Discs will both be part of the same Routine Cleanup stage, and this means that if you do want the Bunny in Wonderland one, you will end up dropping Notes from the Chained as well. This is why we recommend you keep any Chained piece that could benefit an Ice anomaly Agent. This way, you already sort of pre-farm for a future character.
