HoYoverse has shared a new developer talk where they went over their vision for the future of Zenless Zone Zero, and Season 3 is definitely going to be one of the game’s biggest changes yet. With Version 2.8 closing out the current arc, the devs gave an early look at what is coming next, from story developments to an entirely new city.
A New Chapter Begins After 2.8
Season 3 will directly continue the story threads introduced over the past updates, especially around the Proxies’ evolving powers.
After their encounter with the mysterious “Creator,” those abilities have started to become unstable, and a rare material called Flint Porcellium is now an important material needed to stabilize them. The problem is that it has been stolen by Ramiel, who is going to be a central figure going forward.
At the same time, the game will go even more into the lore of Phaethon, including more revelations around their hidden power known as Helios’ Legacy that will manifest in the form of the Etheric Other, Pyrois, and that will also support Proxies in combat.
The Classified Arispace Zone: Roscaelifer
The biggest reveal is easily Roscaelifer, the new main location for Season 3.

Described as a floating aerial city, it is presented as a kind of hidden refuge that has existed since the Old Eridu era. It will have a very different tone from previous areas. Roscaelifer leans into a softer, almost nostalgic atmosphere where everyday life is mixed with retrofuturistic elements, and it gives a “home in the sky” feeling. It is described as a “dream city where Bangboo and humans live in harmony“.
Expect things like flying taxis, cafés, jazz bars, and small environmental details that tell their own stories. The devs clearly want this area to feel more personal rather than purely mission-driven, like a random summer afternoon, where you and your friends are just sitting in the park, relaxing under a tree.
Exploration and Systems Are Getting a Big Upgrade
Roscaelifer is not just a new map since it comes with new systems built around exploration as well. You will be able to interact with the city even more than before, through:
- Shops, cafés, bakeries, and side activities
- Hidden rewards like mystery boxes
- A new Inter-Knot (Interboo) system, acting as a city-wide Bangboo network
- New check-in spot, the Roarin’ Brekkies

As your exploration progresses, you will unlock secrets, character files, and rewards. There is also a new permanent mode focused on Bangboos, where you rescue and upgrade them while building out a hidden base.
The Interboo Terminal will also function as a portal for progress and provide rewards. The more you explore this Bangboo city, the more things you unlock, the higher your Interboo Terminal levels up, and the more rewards you will obtain!
New Mechanics and Combat Changes
On the gameplay side, Season 3 introduces a ton of new mechanics that go beyond new Agents. One of the most notable is the “Singularity Leakage”, a special environmental phenomenon that distorts space and creates labyrinth-like combat zones with changing layouts and new enemy behaviors.

Combat itself is also evolving:
- New enemy mechanics require better timing and coordination
- Expanded use of Phaethon’s abilities (including hacking and traversal)
- Special Movement Methods of “Etheric Other”
- More emphasis on character synergy and strategy
Version 2.8 already starts this transition with the Wind attribute and its “Vortex” effect, but this will likely play an even bigger role in Season 3. They also shared the fact that they want to provide more squad-building options and broadening the possibilities in combat.
The plan to enhance the older characters is still ongoing as well. Multiple Agents that have been out for a while will get some buffs or improvements to their kits, so keep your eyes open for those!
A More Immersive Direction Overall
One of the most important points from the dev talk is the change toward a more immersive experience. HoYoverse really wants to blend story and gameplay more closely, make environments feel meaningful and interactive, and expand both casual and endgame modes.
Season 3 will roll this out gradually:
- Version 3.0 → exploration-focused introduction to Roscaelifer
- Version 3.1 → massive story turning point

Overall, Season 3 looks like a soft evolution of the game. Instead of just adding new characters and events, the focus is clearly on better world-building, more interactive environments, and systems that link progression more closely to exploration.
If it lands well, this could be the update that really defines Zenless Zone Zero’s long-term direction!
