After the first official Closed Beta Test (CBT), the team at Chrono Odyssey quickly realized that the first Chrono Gate boss could be a bit of a challenge for some players. So much so, that some even stopped playing altogether once they got there.
To help make the learning curve a little bit less intense early in the game, the team is adding a “Supporter System”. Starting with the first Chrono Gate boss, players will now have the option to challenge and clear combat encounters alongside a designated NPC supporter. In most cases, it seems like this Supporter System will be primarily used when challenging the different Chrono Gates, and not so much outside of that.
While the team is striving towards an unrestricted, challenged open world, they recognized that some players will suddenly face an intense difficulty spike that challenges their ability to move forward. This system is being added to address this and ensure that players of all skills and abilities can still see a path forward (especially early in the game).
It’s important to note that the “Supporter System” is NOT a permanent, micro-managed companion system. It’s a difficulty buffer designed for players who hit occasional difficulty spikes within Chrono Odyssey’s non-linear progression. The NPCs included within the Supporter System have fixed, pre-defined roles and cannot be “owned” or leveled up. It’s best to view them moreso as temporary combat buffers to lower specific battle mechanics.
Although it is not yet determined, there is a chance that using the Supporter System may alter the overall rewards based on the specific battle. The team is currently exploring this a bit further, but the direction the team takes on this could be a game-changer.
