In the latest updates from the Chrono Odyssey development team, they shared the introduction of the Matrix System, which plays a vital role in combat and class progression. By introducing this new Matrix System, the team is trying to deliver a deeper mechanical complexity that leads to a bit more of a dynamic, customized gameplay experience.
The Matrix System can be best defined as a node-based progression system that moves away from typical linear paths, allowing players to customize their character’s builds further to tailor them towards a specific combat style. One of the main goals of this new system is to continue to maintain the unique identity of each class and weapon, while also offering a bit more of a specialized combat experience.

Through the Matrix System, combat styles will be further diversified based on the stats allocated through the Matrix, acquired passive skills, and the attributes of the player’s equipped gear. Players will be able to customize their builds through this system even through the same weapon, drastically expanding the build possibilities for each class.
Within the Matrix, players will be able to direct their progression to suit their specific needs and support their preferred playstyle. Meeting certain specialization requirements will unlock unique skills and stats that refine each type of combat style. As choices continue to influence casting speeds, effects, and combat rhythm, even the same skills can feel quite different within classes, enabling players to experiment a bit further and craft the perfect build for them.
Since primary skills and combat patterns will change depending on the progression path, the variety in character specialization and com bat utility will be drastically different than what players remember from the first Closed Beta Test (CBT). In other words, get ready for some major build customization changes!
