How to Defeat Thousandfold Piercer (Chrono Gate Boss #1)

The first Chrono Gate Boss (Thousandfold Piercer) will be your true first "test" in Chrono Odyssey. When you first approach this Chrono Gate, you will likely be around level 5 and will have a basic understanding of combat in Chrono Odyssey.

This guide will share everything you need to know to defeat the Thousandfold Piercer, including a deep-dive in level and gear recommendations, suggested consumables, battle mechanics and phases, as well as tips and tricks to succeed in this battle.

Please note: With the most recent updates, players will have an option to enter this first Chrono Gate alongside an NPC for support. If you find yourself struggling, consider taking this option to defeat the Thousandfold Piercer!

2.

Level and Gear Recommendations

Although you likely will make it to this first Chrono Gate pretty quickly after creating your character, it is recommended to reach at least level 5. Additionally, you should obtain a full set of level 5 gear before attempting this boss.

Although this is not a requirement, it will save you a lot of time (especially if you are a melee class), as you will greatly feel the difference in overall damage output and survivability with a full set of level 5 gear.

3.

Consumables

When challenging this first Chrono Gate Boss, you will likely only be around level 5 or so, and the amount of consumables you have on-hand will be limited. If you have the time, or struggle with taking down this boss, then you may want to consider doing some cooking and alchemy to make the following consumables:

  • Carnage Potion - Grants +3 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
  • Nectar of Fortification - Grants +1 to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Wisdom for 30 minutes.
  • Nectar of Agility - Grants +5% Movement Speed and +9 Max Stamina for 30 minutes.
  • Warrior's Meatloaf - Increases Attack by 35 for 30 minutes.
  • Hearty Pottage - Increases HP Recovery per Second by 6 for 30 minutes.
  • Guardian's Grilled Fish - Increases Physical and Magic Defense by 25 for 30 minutes.

Each of these consumables listed above will last for a total of 30 minutes, which is more than enough time for you to complete this battle. Additionally, they will all stack on top of each other, providing your character with a large range of buffs making this battle much, much easier.

4.

Thousandfold Piercer Location

The Thousandfold Piercer is located deep within a cave just north of the "Abandoned Farm" (pictured below). To find this cave, you will likely need to do a bit of a walk around the large cliff (instead of just jumping down due to fall damage).

When you enter the cave, you will eventually find a small portal on top of a pillar that will teleport you directly to this Chrono Gate. Entering the portal will allow you to challenge the Thousandfold Piercer.

We recommend you try fighting the Thousandfold Piercer a few times to get a better feel of the combat system in the game, but do not get discouraged if you fail. You likely will not defeat the Thousandfold Piercer, or any Chrono Gate boss, on your first try.

5.

Battle Mechanics and Phases

When entering this battle, you will quickly notice that the environment is similar to a circular arena, making it the perfect area to kite if you get too low on health. By kiting the enemy (running in a circular motion away from the boss, avoiding damage), you can not only passively regenerate your health, but also reduce cooldown timers on your skills and Health Potions.

When it comes to the actual battle itself, the Thousandfold Piercer will have two primary attacks to watch out for. The first is the most common attack: a slashing motion with their lightning spear. You will have about half of a second to react and dodge this attack from landing. As soon as you see the Thousandfold Piercer pull their spear back, it means the slashing attack is about to happen.

The next attack does not happen as often, but is much deadlier. This is the Thousandfold Piercer's jump attack — they will jump extremely high in the air, then lunge towards you regardless of where you are in the arena.

You cannot "run" from this attack — instead, time your perfect dodge to prevent the Thousandfold Piercer's lunge from landing. This may take you a few times to succeed, but it is possible. If you are not in full level 5 gear, this attack will likely defeat you in one hit.

After following the steps above, you should have no problem defeating Thousandfold Piercer, which will then allow you to unlock them as a Summon option in your Chronotector. Speak with Petra at the Citadel to access the feature.

Be sure to "Activate" Thousandfold Piercer at the Citadel after defeating, as you will likely need this ability to support you in fighting the second Chrono Gate Boss.

Once you defeat the first Chrono Gate Boss, you should continue on to level and progress your character. Eventually, you will come across the next Chrono Gate Boss (Earthbreaker), uncovering new battle mechanics and an all-new challenge. If you need help defeating Earthbreaker, check out the guide below.
