What Is The Talisman System?
The Talisman system is a new addition to Diablo IV in the Lord of Hatred expansion. First seen in Diablo 3 as Set Pieces, the new system looks to expand upon the old system by adding not only Set Items but also making it possible to equip Uniques through a Charm system, adding expanded variety to the current gearing system.
Unlocking Talismans
Players will naturally unlock the Talisman System at the very early steps of the Lord of Hatred campaign, allowing it to be a system that characters will quickly begin becoming familiar with.
Since the Talisman System unlocks early, the rarity of a seal can include, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and even Mythic, with higher difficulties having a better chance of dropping higher rarity choices.
Seals
At the center piece of the Talisman system, Seals determine how many Charms characters will be able to equip. These can vary depending on the affixes and rarity of a given Seal.

Since Charms as a whole give massive bonuses to a character, players’ first priority should be looking for a Seal that enables 6 Charms to be equipped, or allows two Unique Charms to be equipped.
The bonus in the image is determined by your set piece, requiring at least a 2 piece to be equipped. This will also play a role in finding the perfect seal to match your Set Charms, along with finding a perfect stat affix to match your build.
Set Charms
These Sets give bonuses based on how many of the pieces you have equipped.

Most of these Set Charms specifically benefit certain skill tags, such as Eagle for the Spiritborn in the image above, as an example. Since they’re generally tied to tags instead of specific abilities, this opens up a wide range of choices for each class to choose from.
Unique And Regular Charms
Depending at the stage a character is at in their Diablo IV adventure, Charms can begin dropping as soon as the player unlocks the system. Starting early, characters will begin to receive Magic and Rare Charms to fill their slots, although the higher level and tier a specific character gets, Legendary and Unique Charms will begin to drop.

Unique Charms are special as they allow you to equip certain pieces of Unique Gear into a charm slot. Certain Uniques are not able to become a charm, however, there is still a very wide range of choices to choose from, both generic and class specific. Being able to equip a Unique as a Charm opens a realm of huge possibilities, since that slot could potentially be replaced with a powerful Legendary Aspect, or even an entirely different Unique.
Charms also have bonuses affixes listed at the top of them. These can include something simple as an increase to XP or Gold, adding a defensive affix bonus, or even skill ranks to further boost a builds power.
Finding Charms and Seals
Starting in Torment I, Set Charms can begin dropping from anywhere loot typically drops from, such as chests and Elites. Unique Charms can begin to drop earlier, however, it will be rare if they do.
Increasing difficulty will also raise the drop chance of the rarest of runes.
