Skill Bar and Skill Tree Points
Follow the points allocated in the image above for the complete 83 point build. The additional 12 Skill Points are completed using the Season Journey Ranks
Barbarian Class Mechanic – The Arsenal System
The Barbarian can wield four weapons simultaneously as well as choose a weapon expertise to use as their Technique allowing them to gain that weapon’s bonus even if they’re wielding another weapon type. Finally, the Barbarian can assign its skills to use different weapon types shuffling between Two-Handed Bludgeoning Weapons, Two-Handed Slashing Weapons, and Dual-Wield Weapons.
For this build we will want to assign our Technique slot to the Polearm expertise so we can gain its powerful 15% damage multiplier while healthy.
We will want to assign the only skill that we can (
Mighty Throw) to our Two-Handed Bludgeoning Weapon for maximum impact.
Gear, Stats, Gems, and Runes
The following sections will cover all systems that are critical if you want to improve the power of your character and move towards the highest difficulties in the endgame of Diablo 4

Below you will find all of the best-in-slot Aspects found on Legendary items that are important for this build. Remember that all Legendary powers can be added into your Codex of Power once you salvage or extract the item. Uniques and Mythic Uniques
Below, you will find information on Uniques and Mythic Uniques that are useful for this build. Moreover, if you are interested in target farming Mythic Uniques, check out our How to Farm Mythic Uniques guide.
Uniques
Below you will find the useful uniques for this build, let’s dive in.
Tuskhelm of Joritz the Mighty – This powerful helm provides us with extra bonuses if we gain berserking while already berserk which is fairly simple to accomplish on any barbarian build. This will give us a large damage bonus, some resources, and extra cooldown reduction. A must have.
Arreat’s Bearing – Formerly a defensive item, in Lord of Hatred this unique has been reworked to enable powerful Ancient based synergies giving us a large bonus to summon skills and letting our skills summon extra ancients to help grow our ancient army
Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus – The quintessential Barbarian unique allows us to scale all of our damage, including our Ancients, by stacking maximum Fury and gaining a large bonus for doing so.
Mythic Uniques
The Grandfather – An extremely powerful sword ever since the game’s release, this remains true for this build. If you’re fortunate enough to find one of these, equip it straight away and drop
Hellbent Commander Aspect entirely for its powerful critical damage multiplier and massive boost in stats.
Gems and Runewords
Listed below are the best gems to socket into gear for each slot type.
Gems
| Weapon Gems | Armor Gems | Jewelry Gems |
|---|---|---|
For your jewelry, you can freely swap between Diamonds and Skulls based on your needs. Armor and Resistances no longer have hard caps you need to hit to reach your defensive potential. Instead you can now freely swap the gems between them depending on what you need the most. Are you dying to physical strikes? Use Skulls for more armor. Are you dying to elemental abilities light lightning damage or poison pools? Use Diamonds for more resistances. Always be sure to check your Toughness stat and use what works best for you!
Runes
Runewords return from Diablo 2 in Vessel of Hatred! You are limited to two Runewords across your gear, and it requires two sockets in the same item. So, this limits creating Runewords by combining two Runes to either Helm, Chest, Pants, or Two-Handed Weapons. We generally recommend them in both of your Two-Handed Weapons for Barbarian. Let’s jump in.
| Runes | Rune Effects |
|---|---|
| Gain 300 Offering – Cast 5 Skills then become exhausted for 3 seconds | |
| Requires 300 Offering, Cooldown 5 seconds: Gain +1 to all skills for 10 seconds | |
| Gain 200 Offering – Cast an Ultimate Skill | |
| Requires 25 Offering, Cooldown 1 second: Gain 2% Critical Strike Chance for 5 seconds up to 10% |
Paragon Board
We recommend using the following Legendary nodes and Glyphs to truly take this build into the endgame. Note that each Glyph’s information and radius listed below is for the Level 150 version. Note that glyph’s reach their maximum radius and legendary bonuses at level 50. Let’s take a look!
Season Mechanics
In Season 14, any unique can be mythic! You will also be able to use the Horadric Cube to upgrade any unique into a Mythic Unique increasing the power of its unique aspect. You will only be able to wear one crafted Mythic Unique however, any Mythic Uniques you find as drops can be worn alongside your crafted Mythic. The old mythics have been renamed as “Iconic Mythic” to help differentiate the original run from Season 14’s mechanic.
For this build we recommend using the cube to craft either
Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus OR
Arreat’s Bearing into a Mythic as these provide by far the largest bonuses to your damage allowing your ancients to bring the pain.

Talisman
Lord of Hatred introduces Talisman Sets. The Talisman is a Seal and Charms are placed within. Charms have some general affixes from a limited pool and can have Set bonuses which can grant significant power.
For our Seal we will want a Legendary Seal with +1 Charm Slots as an affix. For the other affixes look for anything that grants bonuses while Sescheron’s Fury is active such as damage while berserking or damage reduction, even resistances and life will be helpful here.
For our Charms, we will be using the 5 piece Charm Set Bul-Kathos’ Pride which will grant us the following bonuses
- 2 Set: Ancient skills cost 50% reduced Fury and gain 50% increased Cooldown Reduction and deal x50% increased damage
- 3 Set: Summoning an Ancient grants 5% Damage Reduction for 10 seconds, up to 30%
- 5 Set: When summoning an Ancient, summon 1 additional Ancient. Ancient Skills deal x200% increased damage
These bonuses help us sustain our cooldowns and maximum our shout and ultimate uptimes while granting huge bonuses to our damage. This lets us cycle a lot of abilities very quickly and summon an army of ancients to sweep through anything in front of us.
For our final Charm Slot, we will want to use a Unique Charm. We recommend using
Emblem of Staalbreak for its powerful bonus while berserking and since we are constantly berserking, this is a great final piece to our talisman setup.

Build Mechanics
Rotation and Playstyle
The Ancients Barbarian is a minion variant of the Barbarian that summons an army of ancients thanks to updates in Lord of Hatred to the skill tree giving us new options for our shouts to summon ancients and of course our ultimate
Call of the Ancients.
Challenging Shout &
War Cry: Press these on cooldown to summon even more ancients.
Rallying Cry: Maintain this shout for extra resources and mobility.
Iron Skin: Use this whenever you need a barrier for
Conceited Aspect or for defensive power against tough elites and bosses.
Mighty Throw: This skill when taking the
Mightiest variant lets it become an Ultimate Skill with a 6 second cooldown. However, this does a few things. It allows
Aspect of Apogeic Furor to reset other skills such as our shouts and most importantly,
Call of the Ancients.
Call of the Ancients: Our bread and butter skill to summon the most powerful ancients, press this as often as you can. Like the Mighty Throw variant
Mightiest using this skill also triggers
Aspect of Apogeic Furor, which resets Mighty Throw since it only has a 6 second cooldown. This means we can spam Mighty Throw and get another cooldown reduced, letting us cycle through all of our skills with incredible speed.
Runeword Synergy
Let’s take a moment to review our runes and how they interact with this setup.
Cir – This grants us 300 offering when we use 5 skills. Since we spam through our skills with incredible speed thanks to the cooldown synergies between Call and Mighty Throw when combo’d with
Aspect of Apogeic Furor, this is up all the time.
Vex – Gives us extra skill ranks and thus more powerful for 300 offering. Perfect to pair with Cir which we’ll have up nearly all the time.
Zan – Give us 200 offering when we cast an ultimate skill. Since both Call and Mighty Throw will be tagged as Ultimate Skills with this build, we’ll be generating with this rune all the time.
Gar – Gives us a nice 10% bonus to Critical Strike Chance making it easier to reach that 100% so every hit crits. When paired with Zan we can easily maintain that bonus 10% with perfect efficiency.
Season Updates
For a complete overview of Season 14, its mechanics and theme, new leveling activities, and other changes coming with the Season of Death Awakening, please check out our Season Hub!
Let’s take a loot at what updates there are for Barbarian and this build.
Challenging Shout the damage bonus upgrade can no longer affect bosses since they can’t be taunted by this skill- The Talisman Set “Berserker’s Crucible” had its 5-piece Elite damage bonus reduced from 30% to 10%
Tidal Aspect maximum overpower stacks reduced from 2-4 to 1-3 and it is now a utility aspect rather than offensive aspect
Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil damage reduction is now capped at 40%- Fury gained from taking damage is now capped up to 0.5 Fury per 1% of your Maximum Life and no longer benefits from increased resource generation
Hellbent Commander Aspect damage reduced from 50-70% to 40-60%
Obol Gambling
A final point on acquiring gear is using your Obols to target farm specific slots instead of randomly spending them on random drops. Similar to Kadala in Diablo 3, you can use Obol vendors in town to try and get what you’re missing. With the expansion when a level 70 Character spends Obols, all gear from that vendor will be 850 item power, the highest non-ancestral power allowing you to fill out gear with the affixes or Legendary Aspects you need while also having a small chance to grant Ancestral item power 900 gear.
