Is This the Fastest Way to Get Legendary Runes in Diablo 4?

Kurast Undercity Concept Art by Karine Villette

Legendary Runes are one of the most important crafting resources in Diablo 4, but their drop rate is very low, especially if you are farming random mobs or Lair Bosses. Luckily, there is a much faster and more reliable method! We are talking about farming Tributes of Harmony and using them at the Kurast Undercity brazier.

This approach not only increases how many runes you get overall but also provides the best chance to obtain Legendary-quality runes consistently.

This video goes over it in more detail if you want to check it out as well.

Nevertheless, we put together a small and clear recap for you below!

Best Method: Tributes of Harmony

The Kurast Undercity brazier is the key to farming runes efficiently. It is important to remember that Runes are only accessible if you have the Vessel of Hatred expansion.

Here is how it works:

  1. Gather Tributes of Harmony from:
    • The Pit (chance from the final boss)
    • Whisper Caches (with the Dungeon Keys Cache reward on Torment IV)
    • Glittering Prims (Treasure Goblins) – guaranteed multiple Tributes on Torment IV.
  2. Use those Tributes at the Kurast brazier to obtain Runes at the end of the run.
  3. Defeat the final boss for a big pile of runes, including rare and legendary ones.

If you do not have any of those Tributes, you can still run Kurast Undercity with another Tribute or use someone else’s, but the boss will drop fewer runes overall, and the chance for a legendary is much lower.

Other Farming Options (Less Efficient)

  • Lair Bosses on Torment IV can drop 1 or 2 runes each run, but it is slow and costs a lot of materials.
  • Buying runes with gold or trading for items from other players.

Hidden Trick: Transmuting Runes

If you are drowning in rare runes, head to the Jeweler:

  • Combine three identical rare runes to create a new random rune.
  • There is a 15% chance it instead becomes a random legendary rune.
  • The more you transmute, the higher your odds get in theory.

This method works great as a supplement to Tribute farming, because you will eventually have too many rare runes, and then it is just a good way to turn your excess rares into potential legendaries.

You can also keep your runes for crafting Mythic items later.

However, if you are chasing those orange-glow rune icons, the Tribute farming method is hands down the most time-efficient method in Diablo 4 Season 10. You can also run it in a group if you want your sessions to be even faster.
