Season 14 is well underway, and it has built its identity primarily around the Mythic Uniques 3.0 rework. However, a growing thread of feedback argues that the season’s headline chase items are far harder to get than the theme would suggest. In fact, a player currently sitting at rank 1 on the Hardcore Solo Self-Found leaderboard recently voiced these concerns on r/diablo4. Their central points are now resonating with a good portion of the community.
Two Roads to a Mythic, Both Rough
This season offers two ways to obtain a Mythic Unique, and the poster’s frustration touches both.
The first is crafting. To turn a Unique item into a Mythic, you drop it into the Horadric Cube along with Pandemonium Fragments. In return, you get a random Mythic from the pool for that slot. For the most part, Fragments come from the Corrupted Reaper Lair Boss.
The second is drops. Mythic Uniques can fall naturally anywhere in the game, and certain bosses and farming activities boost the odds, such as Mythic tributes in the Undercity. However, the poster notes that these runs have been heavily nerfed. Worse still, even when a Mythic does drop, there is no guarantee it suits your build.
Even beyond rarity concerns, this system has drawn other backlash due to what is considered a crafted Mythic.
The Players Case
By their account, neither road is delivering. They have played roughly 46 hours and reached Paragon 252 at the top of the ladder. Even so, they report using about 100 keys and 100 caches to obtain only 9 Pandemonium Fragments. That is not even enough to complete a single craft. On the drop side, they ran six Mythic tributes on Torment 12 with the Trials and Tributes War Plan node. Unfortunately, the lone Mythic that dropped was Rakanoth’s Wake, which does not fit their build. On top of that, salvaging it would only return a Resplendent Spark, a material they now consider far less valuable after this season’s changes.
Ultimately, their broader argument is simple. A season built around the Mythic rework should not make its centerpiece item this scarce through both channels at once, especially in a game with a strong solo audience.
Considering Context
Still, it is worth keeping in mind how early the season is, something the poster themselves acknowledges. After all, drop rate and currency friction are common in the opening weeks, and Blizzard has adjusted drop rates in hotfixes before. Moreover, Blizzard has signaled that it is actively monitoring community feedback on these systems. Historically, Reddit is also one of the platforms that developers watch most closely, which means this post could have a large impact.
