Next Expansion for FFXIV is Officially Announced!
We’ve been STARVED for news on the upcoming expansion, especially after they announced the Fan Festival schedule earlier this year. We’ve got both good news and even BETTER news to share today.
The upcoming expansion for Patch 8.0 and more is called Evercold. No wonder they wanted to start Fan Festival Day 1 with the Keynote: they dropped the next expansion trailer first thing at 10:00AM PDT!
When is FFXIV Evercold Expansion Releasing?
JOKES ON EVERYONE. Evercold, a.k.a. Patch 8.0, is dropping January 2027!
This absolutely breaks the precedent set by past expansions. Our FFXIV developers do love a good summer release date, after all! But perhaps just like our beloved video game, Yoshi-P likes to spice things up a little. 👀
This is waaaaaay earlier than everyone would’ve expected. My Big Fish era will be several months shorter!! But alas, what can you do when that expansion tease was so… FIRE? Icy? How would you define it, Warriors of Light? 😉
How is Evercold Related to FFXIV?
The upcoming expansion’s name seems to be based heavily off where our Warriors of Light will be heading in Patch 7.5 and Patch 7.56. With the latest MSQ updates coming in a few days, you can absolutely start to look for signs and hints the story team left for us! Maybe take some time to play New Game+ as well?
Where the first story arc for FFXIV was the Hydaelyn-Zodiark saga (you know, from A Realm Reborn all the way through Endwalker), this upcoming story arc will be called The Godless Realms saga. And Evercold’s expansion will be the opening act!
Warriors of Light will be visiting the Fourth reflection of Hydaelyn, which has fallen into ruin. With the dangers of ever-spreading ice creeping into the lands, how will you and your companions fare in this mysterious new journey?
It’s also quite curious that none of the concept artwork showed at Fanfest featured any icy regions… 👀 Will they all turn into ice eventually? Only time will tell!
