The new Limited Job coming to Final Fantasy XIV is the Beastmaster, a Melee DPS who fights alongside the beasts that they have captured. Armed with a one-handed axe and shield, your goal is to fill out your Master’s Bestiary. As of release in 7.5x, the level cap is 50 and will have solo activities designed for it.
Missed out on the 92nd Live Letter where they showed off all the latest gameplay features? We’ve got you covered in today’s article! Special thanks to Miuna, Iluna Minori, and the rest of the fan translation team over at the r/FFXIV Discord. We’d be lost without you!
Unlock Requirements
To become a Beastmaster, you’ll need to satisfy the following requirements:
- Have a Disciple of War or Magic at level 50 or above
- Have completed the 2.0 Main Scenario Quest
- Have Dawntrail registered to your account

How to Capture New Beasts
The way to capture beasts can be broken down into four main steps:
- Determine if a beast can be captured by using Gauge
- Weaken the beast with attacks to increase your chances of capturing it
- Make sure to activate Catch before knocking it out!
- If everything goes well, congrats! You’ll have successfully recorded it in your Master’s Bestiary!

There are mobs that can be captured in a party, like certain alliance raid mobs. However, those who wish for a pure solo experience can also obtain those beasts as quest rewards.
Do your best to fill out your Master’s Bestiary and consult it to learn all about the beasts. It’ll be your best friend in determining their different auto-attack elements, unique abilities, and capture locations. Until we get further updates, there will be 50 beasts for you to capture and record in your Bestiary.

Once you’ve got a beast you’re proud of, bring it along for a stroll! Maybe even terrorize Limsa Lominsa denizens with a humongous Chimera.
Summoning Your Beasts
You will have access to three horns, somewhat similar to how Pictomancer has three Motifs. Register a beast to a horn and use the horns to swap which beast is currently active. You may only have one beast active on the field. You can also set the summon size of the beast from the Bestiary.

While there is no cooldown when swapping between beasts in sanctuaries, be wary of the timer while in combat! Based on the demo showcased during the 92nd Live Letter, there is a cooldown timer of 90 seconds after a beast has been dismissed while in combat.
Command Your Beast
Your beast has access to four types of Beast Actions:
- Finisher which causes it to deal a blast of damage and leave the field
- Trick, gained at Lvl 8, an element-specific Instinctual Skill
- Tempered Release, gained at Lvl 18, performs a unique action (such as an attack, buff, or more)
- Nature’s Gift, gained at Lvl 22, allows you to borrow an action to perform yourself
As of writing, it is not clear whether it is the Beastmaster‘s levels or the beast‘s levels that determines availability of actions.

Unleash Instinctual Skills through the dual gauge system. When both are at 100 or more, consume the entirety of the bars to perform instinctual skills. The more gauge you consume over the minimum of 100, the more powerful the action!
As you level up, you will gain actions that can fill your gauge instantly to allow consecutive chaining of instinctual skills.

When instinctual skills are used in succession, you can trigger a powerful instinctual combo! Follow the elemental wheel’s order to further increase the damage!

Feel free to take a look yourself at their in-game demo! They run partway through a dungeon and eventually make it to some training dummies to show off different beast abilities and gauge interactions.
As the combat system is unique and likely overwhelming when first getting into it, make sure to pay attention to the job quests! They will run you through all you need to know, step-by-step.
Solo Content: The Crucible of the Unbroken
The Crucible of the Unbroken is content designed for Beastmasters to undertake as a solo experience. Here, you will be able to complete a gauntlet of challenges to earn rewards. Also, they’re working on a ranking system so that you may challenge other Beastmasters on the leaderboard!

You can level up and train your beasts in solo instances, though it was not clear if it was specifically the Crucible. Regardless, there was mention that you could possibly gain subspecies of beasts through this training. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be able to alter your captured beast’s appearance too!
When we get closer to release, there will be another live stream with more details. There is hope that Mr. Ozma, the developer responsible for Beastmaster, will be present to help elaborate. New information is bound to surface to make sure to keep an eye on Icy Veins for more news!
