Genshin Impact‘s 5.7 just released, yet Version 5.8 beta has already dropped a shocking surprise, literally! According to recent leaks, we may soon get to experiment with a brand-new elemental reaction: Moonshock, also referred to as the Lunar Electro-Charged Reaction.
This new mechanic combines Electro and Hydro in a powerful new way that’s already picking on everyone’s curiosity! How does it work? What makes it different to previous Hydro and Electro Reactions? Who will benefit from it?
We covered some of those answers for you!

What Is Moonshock?
Moonshock triggers when Electro comes into contact with Hydro, forming a stormy cloud that repeatedly strikes enemies afflicted with both elements, dealing Electro damage over time.
Here’s what sets it apart:
- The damage can crit
- Damage scales based on all characters who contributed to the reaction
- It hits all enemies affected by Electro and Hydro
This gives it potential to be a major new reaction archetype, putting more value on Electro and Hydro reactions which were a bit left on the side up until now, as being the weakest reactions in the game. Maybe Moonshock will change this.
Moonshock Damage Scaling
While the formula isn’t official yet (5 * EM / (2100 + EM)), leakers have shared rough damage bonuses based on total Elemental Mastery (EM):
- 500 EM = +96%
- 1000 EM = +162%
- 1500 EM = +208%
- 2000 EM = +244%
- 3000 EM = +294%
This makes EM scaling very important, especially for support characters who apply Electro or Hydro off-field.
Who Supports Moonshock?
Several characters are reportedly receiving kit updates to support or trigger Moonshock, including:
- Dori – updated Passive Talent 1: After a chaarcter connected to the Jinni triggers an Electro-Charged, Lunar-Charged…
- Cyno – new Constellation 4 bonus: When Cyno is in the Pactsworn Pathclearer state triggered by Sacred Rite: Wolf’s Swiftness, after he triggers an Electro-Charged, lunar-Charged…
- Sethos – Moonshock included in Elemental Skill (E): Gathers the might of thunder, dealing AoE Electro DMG and quickly retreating. If this attack triggers Electro-Charger, Lunar-Charged…
- Ifa – gains Moonshock synergy via Passive: Max 150 points. Each Rescu Essentials point Ifa has will increase the Swirl and Electro-Charged DMG dealt by nearby party members by 1.5%, and their Lunar-Charged DMG dealt by 0.2%. These points will be cleared when his Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends.
- Mona – Constellation 1 now interacts with Moonshock
- Neuvillette – has a Passive linked to this reaction: When a party member triggers a Vaporize, Frozen, Electro-Charged, Lunar-Charged…
Additionally, the Thundering Fury artifact set is said to now include Moonshock as part of its reaction-triggering bonuses:
New Character: Ineffa and Lunar Reaction Focus
Leaks also point to an upcoming Electro character named Ineffa, who may be tailored specifically for Moonshock teams. Ineffa’s passive is rumored to convert standard Electro-Charged reactions into Moonshock.
Just as Natlan’s Nightsoul Blessing set the stage for region-based mechanics, Moonshock may be “nod-Khaenri’ah” gimmick, introducing unique reactions that depend heavily on the region the characters are from.
