Addons have been a huge part of WoW for years, whether you use them to customise your UI or organise your bags. For many players, they’re basically essential to the game. So, what will the addon situation be with Forever?
Addons in Forever?
Blizzard have confirmed that addons will be a part of the Forever experience! Players will still be able to customise their UI and gameplay, with Forever adopting the same API restrictions introduced with Midnight.
The situation was clarified through a message shared in the WoW UI Discord server by a Blizzard representative, explaining that “WoW Forever shares Mainline WoW’s UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5.”
In an interview with Game Informer, the Forever devs explained that they want to preserve the unique customisation that WoW can provide through addon usage. However, they do not want to have addons to have “too much power and control over a player’s experience.”
During this interview it was also confirmed that Blizzard’s new in-built damage meter and cooldown manager will also be coming to WoW: Forever!
With the WoW: Forever Beta dropping later today, players will soon get their first chance to see exactly what place addons will have in the game.
