Are WoW: Forever Raids Releasing Too Soon?

Forever completely reimagines World of Warcraft raid progression, launching with the Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, and Onyxia’s Lair on December 9th, but is just one month too soon for players to level, gear, and attune themselves for the endgame?

The Barrow Deeps is Forever’s first new raid, in which ten players will explore Illidan’s ancient prison.

While Blizzard has extolled that the journey matters as much as the destination, many players feel that only a month to level and gear adds an extra degree of urgency, encouraging them to rush through the game in order to prepare for these new and untested challenges. While everyone knew what was waiting for them in previous versions of the game, Forever has turned that around, with two original raids containing twenty-one never-before-seen bosses.

This begs the question of how difficult those raids will be. Though there is very little expectation of retail-style mechanics, the numerical requirements are less certain, so players are left to wonder whether they will actually need pre-BiS gear to find success in The Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit. At the very least, they will want to complete the lengthy Drakefire Amulet iconDrakefire Amulet attunement chain for Onyxia’s Lair.

Onyxia is the one boss that we know well, though we don’t know what changes may have been made.

These unknowns may be the most exciting part of Forever, since it completely reimagines the core raid progression with entirely new challenges and rewards that weren’t previously experienced in Classic. Like the addition of new leveling dungeons, the Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit are truly original content, which will set the standard for what we can expect from future development.
