As players continue to explore the level 20-capped World of Warcraft: Forever Beta, many are finding new and unique items and interactions. While some appear to be purely cosmetic, others could be opening the way for completely new playstyles. One of the most recent discoveries, highlighted by Farmerfarms on YouTube, could unlock a new archetype for Mages – the Battle Mage.
By using their new Comprehension skill, Mages are able to decipher scrolls, which can then be applied to specific items or objects in the world. After deciphering 119 scrolls, Farmerfarms finally found the Scroll of the Saber, which references the Blade of Silverlaine. After farming Baron Silverlaine in Shadowfang Keep over 12 times, the Blade finally dropped. Combining the Blade of Silverlaine with the Scroll of the Saber created the Coldflame Saber.
The stats are decent, but the additional melee damage to Frozen targets seems like some fun flavor text at first. However, combining this effect with options like 
Fingers of Frost, 
Shatter, and 
Windfury Totem could allow Mages to finally embrace their melee playstyle as a Battle Mage.
Is this new weapon Blizzard’s answer to the fabled melee Mage, or is it just a fun leveling weapon? As the community continues to discover more mysteries in WoW: Forever, it appears that Blizzard could have even more surprises left to unravel.
