This week’s 12.1 notes are out and there’s a ton of class changes to check out!
This round of tuning is based on Heroic raid testing that’s been going on. Blizzard are buffing underperforming specs and nerfing the top ones. DKs got hit hard, with Frost getting across-the-board 10% hit on top of a few individual nerfs as well. Unholy “only” got an 8% aura hit, but got a lot more individual nerfs. Balance, Marksmanship and Fire got solid buffs, while Beast Mastery got a mixed bag (at least at first glance). Holy Palas are getting a larger change this time around, aimed at diversifying talent usage. Arms is getting some single-target buffs, and there’s plenty more for other specs. In total, all 13 classes are getting changes.
There are no separate PVP changes for the week, just the overall ones.

- Developers’ notes: Wingleader’s cooldown reduction mechanic strongly incentivized spreading Bombardment applications across multiple targets. We feel that this gameplay is unintuitive in isolation, and additionally creates unhealthy behaviors such as Disintegrate clipping and Mass Disintegrate/Eruption pooling. This redesign is intended to retain the multitarget focus of the talent, while addressing those issues. We are increasing some of Scalecommander’s sources of area damage to compensate for the lessened cooldown reduction the new Wingleader will provide, and will be keeping a close eye on Devastation and Augmentation’s performance over the course of PTR to make additional adjustments as needed.
- Wingleader has been redesigned – Mass Disintegrate/Mass Eruption reduces the remaining cooldown of Deep Breath/Breath of Eons by 0.5 seconds/1 second for each target struck.

- Developers’ notes: Now that Dream Breath’s healing over time is more powerful at a baseline, we’re reducing some of the supporting talents that are making Dream Breath a little too dominant in Preservation’s breakdown. Additionally, we’re updating Consume Flame to be much more relevant and impactful, which it should be as Flameshaper’s capstone talent.

- Developers’ notes: The intent behind Bloodbath is that the majority of the damage bonus comes from the bleed. The existing tuning hasn’t been delivering on that, so we’re moving some of Bloodbath’s increased damage from the initial hit to the bleed. This change should be net neutral for Bloodbath’s overall damage.

- Developers’ notes: The Protection 4-set bonus bleed is currently underperforming, so we’re buffing it up. We also feel that Protection Warriors, could use a small bump in overall survivability, and the performance gap between Mountain Thane and Colossus is currently too wide and we’d like to bring Colossus’s performance closer to Mountain Thane.
