Week 2 brings more changes, but we do see some specs destined to stay at the top (at least until nerfs). Paladins are doing really well in the popularity department, while all three Rogues are sitting pretty in the top 10 when it comes to DPS, and Shamans ain’t too shabby either! Here are the stats.
The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+
Arcane isn’t going anywhere after the second round of tuning, as it even gained some traction, rising 0.4%. Blood DK is still firmly in 2nd, but it has started to lose some of its dominance, dropping 0.5%. It’s still very safe when it comes to the tank category, however, with Prot Pala, the next best one, down in 10th place. Arms is also down half a percent, while Holy Pala is holding form in 4th and on top of the healers. It’s a very pink top 10, as Paladin really cements its most played class status, with all three specs in the top 10, with Retribution slotting in right behind Holy in 5th place. Shamans aren’t doing bad either, as Resto and Elemental sandwich Beast Mastery in 7th. Demonology keeps rising both here and in the raid, landing in 9th.

We’re up to +20 in week 2, with a pretty solid spec variety already.

Group Composition Popularity
Note: The below chart shows the percentage of group popularity in relation to the top 30 compositions. This means that, for example, the top group says it’s 30% of the compositions, but that’s just 30% of the top 30. In reality, it’s just 2% of all groups played. You can see the smaller 2% number if you hover over the group line in the chart on the Raider.IO page.
The top group is still massively dominant, but it didn’t move an inch this week, staying at the 13.7% mark (of the top 30 groups), and at 0.9% of the overall group population. We do have a brand new group in 2nd place, as Demonology pushed its way in and replaced Elemental from the top group. No.3 is the old No.2, replacing Holy Pala with Resto Druid.
Mythic+ DPS Logs
The below logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing. This means that they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor. It is a much, much smaller factor, however. It grants only a few points for significantly faster completions compared to just any in-time finish. We’re also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity. This means that the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.
95th percentile DPS
We see some solid changes at the top here, and while Arms retains its top spot, Elemental rises two spots into 2nd, pushing Assassination down to 4th. It’s not all bad news for Rogues, as Outlaw gains two, and Subtlety one spot, moving all three Rogue specs into the top 7 this time around. Feral actually drops a couple of spots after its buffs, but we do see Windwalker make a move and push into the top 10, rising two spots.
All Percentiles
Elemental is moving up in the world here as well, only getting to 3rd but rising three spots instead. Arcane is also doing well, gaining two spots to move into 2nd, and Assassination joins it in pushing Devourer down three spots into 5th. Unholy pushes past another Rogue, moving into 6th, and Demonology joins the top 10 in 9th. We still have two Shamans in the top 10, as Enhancement holds on to the final spot. The bottom 3 remains the same, but at least Frost Mage got a buff this week.
Very High Key Raw DPS Numbers
Note: We’re also taking a look at the raw damage numbers from Mythicstats. They take the top runs for extremely high keys (+13-20) from WarcraftLogs and list the overall DPS for the dungeon, which includes non-combat time as well. They’re ranked by the average DPS numbers, with the very top of the top shown next to it.
Demo busts up right to the top, gaining 5 spots in one reset! It’s a very good time for Warlocks in the high keys, as the other big riser is Affliction, and it had an even more meteoric rise, gaining 14 spots in 9th. The rest of the top 10 pack just shuffled around a bit, gaining or losing a spot or two.
