Triple the Players! The Most Played and Best-Performing Specs in the Venomous Abyss: Week 2 Raid Logs

Starym's Avatar by Starym

It’s time for a look back at week 2 of the raid! Players gathered a lot more gear, including tier sets, so things are changing fast. There’s also this week’s class tuning pass to keep in mind, the details of which you can find here.

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Note 2: Warcraft Logs bundled the Lair boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, from the Tidebound Grotto into the Venomous Abyss rankings, which means the logs from here affect the overall rankings you can see below.

Heroic Venomous Abyss

The overall population numbers are exploding, with more than double the players coming in than the first week! The raid’s difficulty at launch definitely had a lot to do with that, but the change is pretty staggering. For example, the top two specs, Arcane and Arms, while remaining in the same spots, went from 84K players to 223K, and 60K to 149K! The Mage has a simply insane lead, and won’t be going anywhere any time soon.

Retribution takes over 3rd as it moves two spots up, while Unholy drops three down to 6th. Elemental and Beast Mastery move up a whole lot as well, grabbing 4th and 5th. Destruction drops off pretty massively, losing 7 spots, but luckily there’s another Warlock in to take its place, with Demonology rising those same 7 spots into 8th. Shadow drops a couple spots and out of the top 10, leaving Marksmanship to grab that final spot.

Overall Damage 95th Percentile

While Arcane is still riding very high, its lead did diminish a solid amount. Arms dropped off a little, losing two spots and landing in 4th. Demonology makes its grand appearance and moves as high as 3rd, rising a giant 18 spots, making great use of its tuning buff! Devastation is the rock for now, keeping steady in 5th. We still have two Rogues in the top 10, with Subtlety moving two spots down and Assa one. Warlocks actually manage to get all three specs into the top 10 this week, with Affliction grabbing a bunch of spots to move into 8th and Destro dropping one in 10thm as they sandwich Elemental. Feral drops to the very bottom, but it’s getting a lot of help in the tuning this week.

Overall Damage All Percentiles

Marksmanship moved even higher than last week, grabbing another two spots to land in 2nd, and is actually very, very close to Arcane’s top spot. Arms moves down slightly and is being pressured by Demo in 4th, which gained 15 spots to get there. Enhancement is the other big change from the top percentiles, with the Shaman gaining two spots and outdoing its fellow Elemental, grabbing 8th. Shadow is still holding on to the top 10, with only Affliction, which literally burst 14 spots up from the bottom 3, behind it now.

At the bottom we have two specs that are getting some major buffs, and then there’s Augmentation at the very bottom, which isn’t getting any.

Damage to Bosses

Assassination is back in its usual spot, which is the very top, as Arms now finds itself between the two Rogues. Marksmanship gained a lot of ground here, explaining its big rise in the regular charts.

Individual Bosses

Nymrissa Wavecaller (Tidebound Grotto Lair)

Nymrissa is listed as belonging to the Venomous Abyss on WCLogs.

Sszorak

The Rogueiest boss ever remains very yellow-heavy on top!

The Twin Fangs

This is definitely one of the main bosses the Warlocks are gaining ground on.

The Coiled Altar

Demonology makes it to the very top on the penultimate boss.

Ula’tek

The heart nuking phase is certainly doing a lot of favors for the top-spot Assassination here.

A Peek at Mythic

While Heroic population may have more than doubled, Mythic went and did a 10X! This is very expected, especially with such a hard first week, and the many nerfs that followed.

Overall Damage, All Percentiles

The Warlocks are taking over Mythic for now, with a whole lot of damage. Shadow is also unexpectedly high here.
