Repair Bills Are About to Get a Lot Cheaper for Tanks and Melee

Patch 12.0.7’s release is closing in, and a new note in the most recent PTR build is great news for an ongoing problem in Midnight. Combat events will no longer deal durability damage to gear!

ITEMS

  • Weapons and armor will no longer take durability damage from combat events (attacking, blocking, etc.).
    • Developers’ notes: This type of durability damage affected different classes and specs in an asymmetrical way. With this change, all players should experience less durability damage in 12.0.7, but in particular, players who use shields or fast weapons should see significantly less durability damage from wear and tear.

This change will benefit everyone, with classes that tend to take more hits or use melee abilities seeing the biggest benefit, such as tanks and melee specializations.

Repair Costs Became a Bigger Problem in Midnight

Repair costs have always been a factor in World of Warcraft’s history, serving as a subtle gold sink. The better your gear and the more damaged it is, the more it will cost to repair.

In Midnight, there are several factors that made repair costs a big problem. With higher-level gear being more easily obtained with mechanics like the bonus rolls from Nebulous Voidcores, players’ repair bills do become more expensive over time.

Certain raid fights are also very unforgiving when it comes to repair costs. Fights like Crown of the Cosmos and Midnight Falls are especially bad on that end. With the amount of early wipes you could get on progression for either fights, repair costs skyrocket.

Even with factors like ways to die without taking the usual 10% durability damage on death, repair costs from combat actions accumulate over time. Prior to 12.0.7, there was nothing that could be done about combat durability damage. This change should now make repair costs lower for everyone, especially for tanks and melee players.
