The event was originally slated for Patch 11.2.7, and Blizzard even posted an infographic showing it on the schedule. with an infographic posted by Blizzard that showed its return.
The event was quietly pulled with no official notice from Blizzard. There was speculation it could return for the pre-patch, as 11.2.7 had the 21st Anniversary, Legion Remix, and Turbulent Timeways event all giving bonus XP. Those events will wrap up when the pre-patch goes live on January 20, 2026.
What Are the Winds of Mysterious Fortune?
Winds of Mysterious Fortune first appeared in Patch 11.1.5. While the event is active, it increases Experience gains by 20%, and boosts reputation gains by 100% in War Within and 200% in Dragonflight zones. It was introduced as a way to level characters, get gear and cosmetics, and finish reputation grinds heading into Season 3 of The War Within.
Reputation Gains Decreased For Pre-Patch, Works on All Expansions
Based on the tooltip, we can see the event has changed slightly since its last iteration. The biggest change is that reputation gains will be slightly lower, capping at 50%.
However, there’s no restriction on which expansion the buff applies to, making older reputations faster to grind.
What Are Your Thoughts?
Do you prefer smaller gains that cover more expansions? Or should the event focus on more recent expansions?
