As Patch 12.1 testing continues, we have another update to our Mythic+ PTR tier list. This week’s update reflects the changes from the latest PTR build and the overall meta among the Mythic+ testing population.
We’re only one week away from Patch 12.1 release day! This means only two weeks left for tuning before Season 2 starts on August 18th/19th. Let’s take a look at the current state of affairs and how the Mythic+ meta is shaping up.
Midnight Season 2 PTR Mythic+ Tier List
Below is the tier list updated for this week, following changes from the latest PTR build and meta developments. You can read more about how these lists are built in the Criteria section at the bottom of the post.

Highlights for the Week
Below, we will recap the biggest highlights for the week. As always, if you’re looking to see the complete analysis, check out our individual guides. The guides cover in detail the reasoning behind every spec’s placement.
You can also see the tier list explained below in video format:
Biggest Winners of the Week
By far the biggest winner of the week is Arcane Mage. Somehow, while already on top, Arcane got another round of buffs. Likely the highest DPS in the game right now.
After being relegated to meme for four years, Windwalker Monk is at the verge of success. Climbing from B+ to S this week, the spec is looking solid, proving Mystic Touch, strong AoE, good priority damage, and burst; the spec has it all. It is part of the “Alternative S” group as it doesn’t fit into the current meta comp, but a really strong choice nonetheless.
The final highlight of the week goes not only to one spec, but to three. This week saw all three Rogue specs climbing. Outlaw has received another set of buffs, landing together with Windwalker at the “Alternative S” tier. Assassination received a 10% overall buff, leaving it on A+. Last (and least) Subtlety. While still the worst Rogue spec, Sub received substantial buffs this week, around 30%.
Biggest Losers of the Week
Blizzard got this beast in their sights. Hunters continue with their descent after the nerf to Hunter’s Mark. Marksmanship has received a substantial 15% nerf this week, dropping them from A+ all the way to B+. BM is not far behind, also dropping down, ending at B.
Finally, we have Devastation Evoker. Ah Devastation… Despite receiving good buffs for Scalecommander, Flameshaper got hit in the crossfire. This change improved Devastation for raiding, but at the cost of making it even worse than it already was for Mythic+. Right now you’re better off with a second Blood DK or any other tank than a Dev Evoker in your group. It is bad.
Other Evoker specs aren’t in a much better spot either, with Preservation being the hardest healer to pilot right now and Augmentation having a hard time fitting in comps when Arcane and Resto Shaman already bring lust to their groups.
Criteria of the Tier List
This tier list is based on the strength of each DPS specialization during recent PTR testing for Midnight Season 2. The placement takes both the raw throughput and the utility kit into consideration. Damage profile for Season 2 dungeons also plays a role in deciding positioning.
You can read the full disclosure about the criteria on the PTR Tier List hub. Ultimately, Tier Lists are an opinion, which you may disagree with. However, this is our current opinion as tuning stands. The list will change week over week, and we will cover future changes as the meta progresses. It will also likely change as Season 2 starts, tuning happens, and meta develops. Stay tuned for updates.
