WoW Patch 12.1 Is Almost Here: Get Your Game Ready With These Tips

WoW Patch 12.1 hits servers later this week, bringing players a whole host of new content, features, and changes to dig into. But whilst we’re all still waiting, here are a few useful things you can do in preparation!

Update Your Addons

This should probably be the first thing on your to-do list. Major patches are notorious for breaking addons, and Patch 12.1 will be no exception!

In fact, this patch comes with changes to the addon API that will allow certain addons to do more than they could under Midnight’s initial restrictions. This means addon creators will have plenty of reason to be making updates around patch launch, so check for updates before logging in!

Clear Out Your Quest Log

If your quest log has become a graveyard of quests you picked up entire expansions ago, Patch 12.1 is a pretty good excuse to clean that up.

There are a number of ways in which you can make abandoning quests considerably quicker, such as the Mass Quest Abandon addon on CurseForge, or by using this helpful macro from SethAndBeans on Reddit:

/run for i = 1, C_QuestLog.GetNumQuestLogEntries() do local qid = C_QuestLog.GetQuestIDForLogIndex(i); C_QuestLog.SetSelectedQuest(qid); C_QuestLog.SetAbandonQuest(); C_QuestLog.AbandonQuest(); end

Just remember to check what you’re actually abandoning before you do it!

Free Up Some Space on Your PC

While you’re waiting for Patch 12.1 to hit, you may as well make some room on your drive. World of Warcraft can accumulate a surprising amount of unnecessary data over time, and the Battle.net launcher doesn’t always do a great job of cleaning that up.

Here’s a full guide on how you could save up to 50GB of space on your PC!

Clean Up Your Bags and Bank

Patch day is also a great excuse to deal with the inventory nightmare you’ve been avoiding. Go through your bags. Clear out old consumables, unnecessary crafting materials, duplicate items and whatever else you’ve been carrying around “just in case.”

With a new patch comes new things you’ll inevitably want to collect, so making some space beforehand is never a bad idea!

Update your addons, clean out your quest log, reclaim some storage space and tidy up your bags. When Patch 12.1 finally goes live, you’ll be able to skip the boring stuff and jump straight into the action!
