Last Updated: Jul 17, 2026 - 4:40 AM (4d ago)

The following guide covers everything you need to know about Midnight Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, and its new features and rewards.

1.

Introduction

Prepare for the next major chapter in the Midnight campaign, adventurers! Midnight's newest major content patch is 12.1: Curse of Ula'tek. While we do not currently have an official release date, it seems likely that 12.1 will hit mid-August. This patch brings a brand new season, complete with a new raid, a fresh dungeon rotation, a whole extra area to explore, a myriad of class changes, and so much more!

World of Warcraft Midnight Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula'tek Ula'tek herself, the final boss of the new Venomous Abyss raid.

Read on to learn about all that Midnight Patch 12.1 has to offer.

2.

Midnight Season 2

Midnight Season 2 officially begins 1 week after 12.1 goes live, kicking off an 8-boss raid, a new dungeon rotation, a new season of Prey, Bountiful Delves, and the new Lairs feature.

2.1.

The Venomous Abyss

Midnight Season 2 will begin with The Venomous Abyss, an 8-boss raid finishing with Ula'tek herself.

2.2.

New Mythic+ Season

12.1 also introduces a new dungeon, Altar of Fangs, which will begin as a Heroic dungeon and become a part of the Mythic+ rotation when Midnight Season 2 starts.

The full Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Dungeon Rotation is as follows:

  • Altar of Fangs;
  • Murder Row;
  • Den of Nalorakk;
  • The Blinding Vale;
  • Voidscar Arena;
  • King's Rest;
  • Ruby Life Pools;
  • Temple of Sethraliss.
2.3.

Delves

Patch 12.1 will also introduce 3 new delves, with one being the next Nemesis delve:

  1. Ring of Glory;
  2. Gnarldor Isle;
  3. Venomfall Deeps.

Existing Midnight Delves will also have new "venomous" variants and mobs.

2.4.

Prey

Midnight Season 2 also kicks off a new season of Prey, with new targets, new affixes, and new hunt locations. Astalor Bloodsworn also has several new voice lines!

2.5.

Lairs

Lairs are an entirely new concept with Patch 12.1, pairing some of the fun flexibility of Delves with the scaling difficulty and flexible size of raid instances. Lairs will be found in fixed locations around the map, much like Delves, but with their own summoning stones outside. Each Lair is wholly instanced, flexible content scaling from 15-25 players, with difficulty up to Mythic.

3.

Housing Changes

Midnight Patch 12.1 will have builders everywhere cheering, as it provides a number of much-requested changes to building, dyes, and Endeavors, among other Housing topics!

3.1.

Blueprints

Blueprints, possibly the most-requested feature for Housing enthusiasts, are finally coming to WoW! Now, players can save interiors, exteriors, entire builds, or individual rooms; swap between blueprints, or share your creations with your guild mates, your friends, or your neighbors. Players can even share codes cross-region (excluding China), and can share and import them even in chat!

Upon importing a new blueprint, the feature will show a list of all required rooms and decor items, the total decor budget needed, and anything that may be missing from your library. Additionally, importing a saved room will attempt to use correctly-dyed items where possible, but will NOT replace any items you had previously dyed.

Upon release, each player will be provided with 50 save slots for layouts, and 10 additional slots purely for autosaves. Autosaves are automatically created whenever a player imports a blueprint, allowing the builder to revert their building to its previous state. A Reset button has also been added that will reset the entire house or just the interior/exterior for a quick method of restarting.

A new permission has been added with the advent of blueprints: "Export." This permission is defaulted to "No One," but adjusting this will allow friends, neighbors, or anyone passing by your house to import your build into a save slot of their own!

3.2.

Pets in Housing

Enjoy watching your non-combat pets at home with Pet Beds, which allow players to assign pets to beds in and outside their houses. Each player can place up to 10 beds inside, and up to 5 beds outside; indoor pets can be set to Stationary or Roaming, while outdoor pets can only be Stationary for now. Some pets are currently unavailable for housing placement.

3.3.

Endeavors

Midnight Patch 12.1 will also provide players with 4 new Endeavors to choose from:

  • Knock-Off Amani: the featured Endeavor with the release of 12.1; Griftah and his troupe would like to visit the neighborhood to trade their "traditional Amani goods." It's fairly obvious that these are not original Amani items, however the neighborhood residents are interested nonetheless.
  • Every Bakar Has Its Day: residents of the neighborhood love their pets, but they could use help training them! The centaurs of the Ohn'ahran Plains have very strong bonds with their bakar and they may be willing to pass on some training tips.
  • Candle Culture: Strange wax deposits have begun to appear in the neighborhood. Who better to find a use for them than the Kobolds of the Ringing Deeps? Seek their counsel on illumination.
  • Vacation Season: The Tortollans are a worldly folk. So worldly, in fact, that they need no introduction to your neighborhood-they've been vacationing here long before you put down your roots! Share in their recreational wisdom.
3.4.

Dye Updates

Pre-12.0.5, some shades of dye were quite a bit darker than they appeared in subsequent housing changes, eliciting some unhappy reactions from dedicated builders. Midnight Patch 12.1 reintroduces some of those darker shades, as well as a number of other colors.

Dye crafting has also been streamlined, freeing up all the bag space previously occupied by dyes!

Read more about the Dye System changes in this blog post.

3.5.

Houses

Houses can now reach level 12, unlocking increased item budgets, large-size exteriors, and more. Players can also now move their entry rooms anywhere in the house, including other floors; this change makes basements a possibility for the first time!

3.6.

Housing UI

Two brand new categories have been added for decor: Vines and Hanging Plants; Pet Beds.

One of the extraneous pop-ups that appears when attempting to delete an empty room (one with no decor in it) has now been removed.

4.

The Midnight Story Continues

As with every major patch, Curse of Ula'tek furthers the advancement of the Midnight storyline on several different fronts. Which path will you follow first? Will you trace Zul'jan's steps and learn more about the Amani trolls, or keep on Xal'atath's trail with Arator?

4.1.

The Coiled Isle

Continue Zul'jan's story in Zul'aman, joining Zul'jarra as she delves into the shrouded history of the mysterious Coiled Isle. Set foot on the frighteningly venomous Coiled Isle and explore the zone, which becomes the core questing zone for Patch 12.1.

Collect zone-specific player power perks and level up your zone-specific talent tree while venturing through the Vaults of Atal'utek; these deadly vaults are exceedingly dangerous group content, offering rotating public events that work up to eventual boss fights.

Track Curse Surges, killing Rare Elites at one of five rotating locations across the Coiled Isle. Each rare kill unlocks Cursed Fishing at that spot, tying in with the local story of Tokka the Tortollan sea captain and his crew. Gain reputation with him to fish an increasing number of cursed spots around the isle.

4.2.

Where is Xal'atath?

Join forces with Arator once again to hunt down Xal'atath and find the answers he has been seeking about the fate of his family and his world.

5.

Itemization Changes

The Curse of Ula'tek also introduces some huge changes to boss drops and Great Vault rewards, which will likely be much celebrated by a majority of the raiding population.

5.1.

The Great Vault

LFR, Normal, and Heroic raid Great Vault items are now rewarded at the first step in the next hardest difficulty's upgrade track. For example, all Heroic raid Vault rewards will now be Myth 1/6.

Mythic raid Great Vault rewards are now awarded at Myth 6/6, apart from Very Rare items, and loot from the penultimate and ultimate bosses.

Whether acquired directly from the boss or looted from the Great Vault, Mythic raid Very Rare items, and loot from the penultimate and ultimate bosses will be acquired at the equivalent of Myth 9.

5.2.

Nebulous Voidcores

Any remaining Season 1 Nebulous Voidcore Icon Nebulous Voidcores will be converted into gold upon the end of Midnight Season 1. These will no longer be usable, even in old Season 1 content.

Nebulous Voidcore Icon Nebulous Voidcores will be available as a Great Vault reward option from the start of Midnight Season 2.

Orin Straylight is now near the Catalyst in Silvermoon. He will provide an additional Nebulous Voidcore Icon Nebulous Voidcore per week starting in Week 8 of Midnight Season 2.

In Midnight Season 2, rolling for raid items with Nebulous Voidcore Icon Nebulous Voidcore costs 1 Voidcore, instead of 2.

5.3.

Catalyst

Class set armor will now inherit the secondary and tertiary stats AS WELL AS any special cantrip effects of items converted with the Catalyst.

6.

Class Changes

Player health and creature damage has been increased by 25% at max level. Consumable values have been adjusted to compensate. This change is intended to make damage less spiky and help healing gameplay feel more rewarding and less panicky. We saw similar adjustments in early Midnight and early Dragonflight.

The throughput of major DPS cooldowns has been reduced for several specs, with the expected tradeoff of increased steady damage.

All class interrupts will now display a "missed" visual over the target's head if used while the target was not casting; the interface will also play a separate sound to represent a missed interrupt.

Midnight Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula'tek arrives with new tier sets, new items, and a whole host of class changes for everyone. Find your class guide below for more information!

7.

Player vs Player Changes

Alongside the expected PvP changes for every class and spec, Patch 12.1 also introduces some targeted nerfs to movement speed reductions in PvP content. Of particular interest for this nerf are any snares applied during the course of normal combat rotations.

The Arena Training Grounds now also include combat against computer controlled players in Arenas. Players can queue with up to 2 others via the Training Grounds section of the PvP tab in the Group Finder.

8.

User Interface, Accessibility, and Addons

As promised, Blizzard continues to work on improving their base game UI in order to remain competitive with the addon options available to players. The Cooldown Manager, Ping System, Nameplates, and Edit Mode all received significant changes with 12.1.

8.1.

Cooldown Manager

Many raiders have requested additional features be added to the Cooldown Manager, and Blizzard seems to have listened. With Patch 12.1, the Cooldown Manager will now track trinkets and potions.

Buff and debuff icons displayed on native Blizzard raid and party frames can be independently sized, and can also have independent border scales.

Healers can now assign visual alerts to specific group buff spells via the "Group Buff Filter UI."

The Cooldown Manager now has a new category of "Short" sounds to use for various alerts.

Sounds from the Cooldown Manager can now be used for the Combat Audio Assist accessibility feature.

8.2.

Ping System

The Ping System has also been improved dramatically with the release of Patch 12.1, including expanded ping availability and macro opportunities.

You can now ping the following:

  • action bar;
  • Cooldown Manager spells;
  • Player resources (health, mana, etc).

Ping icons will now show on unit frames like target, focus, and raid frames, when the unit is pinged.

The Ping System can now be set to target environment only, units only, or both.

Ping macros will now also support pinging spells or items, with updated slash commands added.

The [@cursor] target is now available for ping macros; using this ignores all UI and unit elements, explicitly pinging ONLY the environment where the cursor sits.

8.3.

Nameplates

New options added in Friendly Nameplates to "show only name", "use class colors for names", and "hide realm name".

"Big Debuff" is now enabled by default for the "Enemy Player Buffs/Debuffs" nameplates option.

8.4.

Edit Mode

Raid Warnings can now be moved.

Raid and party frames now support Frame Size settings that were previously only available for other unit frames. These frames can now be scaled up by 100%.

8.5.

Miscellaneous UI Changes

Auction House Filters now persist across play Sessions.

In Group Finder, the refresh button no longer overlaps with the "Filter Reset" button.

8.6.

Addons

Adjustments have been made to the APIs that allow addons to display sets of auras in a custom way without exposing underlying aura information. Read more on this change in this blue post.

9.

Discord Integration

Blizzard has announced that, alongside all the other big changes coming in Patch 12.1, they will also be introducing battle.net and Discord integration! Now players can participate in guild chat conversations even if they have yet to arrive home from work, making planning guild events and group content that much easier.
