The new Season 14 is well underway, and players are already reporting major changes in loot drops from last season. In S13, Mythic items were abundant – players could run a single Mythic Undercity Tribute, juice it up with the Goblin War Plan node, and then get over ten Mythic items in a single two-minute run.
This is no longer the case, as these Tributes no longer guarantee a Mythic drop. What’s even more important however, is a general nerf of Mythic item drops across the board. The rebalancing of these elite items comes at a very interesting time for the game, as the current season completely redesigns Mythic Uniques.
Before, all Mythics had fixed affixes, making them instantly recognizable. Mythics in S14 are different, and come with two fixed and two random affixes. An even more impactful change is the launch of Mythics 3.0. With this feature, almost every Unique item in the game can drop as a Mythic variant – getting an increase of their item effect, as well as always rolling max value stats, similar to Primals in Diablo 3.
This change in drop rate should be compensated with crafting your own Mythic Unique. Season 14 adds a new recipe to Horadric Cube, allowing you to make your own Mythic, by offering a Unique item. The result is a random item. The Cube will not convert your Banished Lord’s Talisman to its Mythic counterpart, but it will respect the item slot and offer a random Mythic amulet.
While Mythics themselves are now a rare drop, devs have massively boosted drop rates of Mythic Seals. In his video about undocumented changes in Season 14, Wudijo – one of the largest Diablo content creators – mentions getting two Mythic Seals already.
For other undocumented changes, such as World Bosses getting the Resilience buff once more, or The Pit invulnerability bubble disappearing completely, check out his video.
Gems and gem fragments have been another pain point of Season 13. Last season turned gems into a powerful source of damage multipliers, while also being very cheap on gem fragments. Thankfully, gems and gem fragments in S14 are plentiful. Now, we’ll be able to finally craft our Horadric gems, without tediously farming Seer’s Reach.
One other thing worth mentioning is Traces of Echoes. Devs have promised to massively increase their frequency, and from my personal experience, they have. I got one while farming a random dungeon in Torment I, which is a huge buff compared to last season. In S13, Trace of Echoes was a late Endgame drop. People looking to run Echoing Hatred will now be able to do so more reliably.
