With Diablo IV being free on PlayStation this month, a lot of new players are joining Sanctuary! Once you made it through the campaign, it is when the real game starts. You have to go grind for the best loot possible, and for this, you need to look for various materials that will allow you to open the chests once you beat Lair Bosses. But what are Lair Bosses? And how do I know what they can drop?

Do not worry, we got you covered with a small recap on what Lair Bosses actually are, how to get their loot, and what exactly you can get from them!

What Are Lair Bosses?

Lair Bosses are basically the most powerful bosses you can farm from Torment 1 to Torment 4 for rare and powerful loot. Each boss also has a unique loot pool. So if you want a specific Unique item for your build, this is how you target farm those!

Each lair Boss is located somewhere else. You can typically see their locations on your map, but if you want to know where they are, you can check out our in-depth Lair Boss Guide!

Once you found the Lair Boss you needed, it is time to kill him. Be careful, as some of those can be quite annoying! When the boss is dead, you will notice a Hoard chest! This is where your loot comes from. In order to open it, however, you need specific key materials. Each boss requires different mats, and they can be found in various activities all over the game.

How Loot Works

You may also wonder, but how exactly does the loot work? How many chances do I have to get the Unique I want? Well here is a little breakdown for beginners, or those who need a recap:

  • The first Unique from each boss is guaranteed to be from that boss’s loot pool.
  • After that:
    • 50% chance for more Uniques from the boss pool
    • 50% from the general Unique pool
  • Torment 3+ guarantees at least one extra Unique drop.
  • Torment 4 can drop up to 7 Uniques total!
  • Group Bonus:
    • For each extra player in your party, the boss has a +33% chance to drop an extra Unique from their pool.

What About Mythic Uniques?

Mythic uniques can in theory drop from anywhere, but some Bosses do have a higher chance:

  • Duriel, Andariel, and Harbinger of Hatred have double the Mythic Unique drop rate compared to other bosses.
  • Belial guarantees an Ancestral Unique in his loot and has the highest Mythic Unique drop chance of all.

Boss Loot Tables

As mentioned before, each boss as its unique loot pool. Some uniques can drop from more than one boss, but most of the time they will all have specific loot.

There are a certain amount of Uniques per class, and on top of that more general Uniques that can be used by all classes.

If you know what Unique you need, but you do not know who drops it, you should check out our Unique farming guide! We cover each boss in detail, their full loot pool, and tips on how to defeat them:
