The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival keynote in Berlin just ended, but the Fan Fest is still ongoing! And during the keynote, Yoshi P was joined by Naoki Hamaguchi to reveal Evercold’s eight-player raid series. This time, it is being developed in collaboration with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake team.
Titled “Beyond the Lifestream,” the raid series brings together developers from both games in what Square Enix describes as a celebration of two of the franchise’s biggest adventures.
The FF7 Remake Team Is Directly Involved
The announcement was not limited to a simple name reveal. Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, explained why the collaboration felt like the right project at the right time.
The final chapter of the Remake trilogy is launching not long after Evercold, and both development teams wanted to create something that highlights what makes Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 14 special. It was also important to them to work together on the raid to make sure the crossover feels authentic.
The raid’s story is being written by Motomu Toriyama alongside the Final Fantasy 14 scenario team, under the supervision of Kazushige Nojima, and Tetsuya Nomura is overseeing the art direction to make sure the world and characters remain faithful to the FF7 Remake trilogy.
Three Raid Tiers and a New Difficulty
Beyond the Lifestream will be Evercold’s new 8-player raid series, launching with Patch 8.01. So not directly when Evercold releases. Given the timing, it looks like the first part of the raid will pretty much release when Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches.
The raid will be released in three tiers, as usual, and introduce three difficulty options:
- Normal
- The new intermediate difficulty that is added with Evercold
- Savage
The new middle difficulty is here to help players learn encounters and earn seasonal gear that can be upgraded over time. And for those who are used to Savage raids, you can directly do those for the upgraded gear.
Fans Are Already Guessing What Is Coming
Square Enix did not reveal any bosses or story details during the keynote, but that is not keeping players from speculating!
With the collaboration centered on the FF7 Remake trilogy, many players are already wondering which iconic characters and enemies could appear inside the raid. The developers also revealed that during development, the FF7 team suggested even more characters after the initial concept had already been planned.
Exactly who will be added into Eorzea remains a mystery, but you can probably expect Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of Avalanche, and bosses such as Sephiroth, Jenova, the Airbuster, or even Hell House for a terrible encounter!
The Collaboration Starts Before Evercold
You will not have to wait until Patch 8.01 to see the crossover begin! Patch 7.56, launching on October 28, 2026, will introduce the first FF7-themed content to Final Fantasy 14 by bringing a special attraction inspired by Final Fantasy 7’s Gold Saucer to the Manderville Gold Saucer.
This attraction will also include “Keybound Brawler,” a new typing minigame.
So even before Beyond the Lifestream launches, you will be able to enjoy some Final Fantasy 7 content!
