Throughout the thirteen years since A Realm Reborn’s launch, FFXIV has slowly found its way onto multiple platforms, with the Xbox Series X being the latest one. But for the first time, the long running MMO will be arriving on a Nintendo platform. Alongside all the news about Evercold at Fanfest, it was confirmed that the game will be landing on Nintendo Switch 2. But conversely, the game will be leaving another platform within the next two years. Here’s what to know:
FFXIV Headed to the Switch 2, But There’s a Catch…
As of the Fanfest announcement, Switch 2 support for FFXIV is slated to begin this August. If you want to get your hands on the game earlier, there will be an early access period approximately one month prior. This period is intended to test server stability, and thus no subscription fees will be collected during early access.
If you already play FFXIV on other platforms, pay attention to this! While traditionally you’ve only needed to pay one subscription to play FFXIV on any platform, the Switch 2 version will be different. Switch 2 will require you to pay a separate subscription to play FFXIV on the console, even if you already have one. While this may be annoying to people who want to play on the Nintendo console and a different platform, there is one bright spot.
No Nintendo Switch Online Membership will be required to play XIV. In addition, players with active subs on different platforms will receive 50% off their Switch 2 subscription.

Support Ending for the PS4
While Nintendo fans may be ecstatic to play the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Sony fans will need to pay attention. With data requirements increasing for each expansion of XIV, older platforms are approaching their hardware limits. As such, PS4 support for the game will be ending in the next two years.
Yoshi-P clarified that the cut-off date will not be when Evercold launches in January 2027. Rather, the the game may reach the PS4’s limitations sometime around Patch 8.3. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anyway around this for the now 13-year-old console. CBU3’s advice: start saving for a PS5 ASAP!
