Earlier today, Blizzard released a bunch of new merchandise in celebration of this year’s upcoming BlizzCon from September 12 to 13. With that, the official Blizzard Gear Store received several updates, and a peculiar color scheme called wow-camelot__color-scheme was noticed. And not only that: Shortly after the community found out about it, the mentioned color scheme got renamed to wow-2__color-scheme. Blizzard, what are you hiding?!
The Blizzard Gear Store Had a Camelot Theme
Blizzard’s storefront maintains several themed color schemes such as wow, wow-midnight, and diablo-4, to increase visual clarity and distinction between their products. With today’s update in preparation for BlizzCon, community dataminer Stiven found a color palette called wow-camelot__color-scheme:
At first sight, the colors of choice seem pretty generic. Black surface, white text, dark-blue containers, the typical Blizzard-blue accents, red for sales, tan for highlights – nothing out of the ordinary.
It’s important to note that this asset dates to August 25 and, when checked, had been cached for about six days. Unfortunately, we cannot prove when the storefront began loading that exact revision.
Camelot was renamed to “wow-2”
Interestingly enough, though, Blizzard changed the color palette’s name shortly after deployment and a tweet by community dataminer Stiven to wow-2__color-scheme, and that is how it is referenced right now. Are we looking at an apparent scrub, obfuscation, or even damage control?
Currently, no evidence supports the claim that this shop color scheme is about WoW 2. It could just mean that this is supposed to be a second WoW-specific store palette – a CSS class is not a product title, after all.
Probably not WoW 2 – But Still Camelot
Connecting the few dots to WoW 2 would be a massive stretch in this situation. However, what we have seen now is another very recent mention of the codename Camelot, better known as Patch 1.60, which we have seen appear and receive several updates. We’ll know everything about Camelot in less than two weeks – meanwhile, the Classic+ plot keeps thickening.
