A shadowy Dark Portal beneath the phrase “All Eyes on Azeroth”, with a promise that “something special is coming to BlizzCon” – this social media post has been fueling the Classic+ rumor mill. Who posted this image, why is it the centerpiece of current speculations, and why have the social media posts suddenly disappeared?
A Dark Portal – Without its Familiar Glow
On September 8, the brand accounts of GIGABYTE’s flagship hardware line AORUS posted a mysterious BlizzCon teaser. Marked with the official BlizzCon logo, the image shows a heavily darkened Dark Portal with no prominent glowing portal surface.

The Dark Portal in the image seems closed or inactive – that would be a valid explanation of the image, which then sparks one central question: Are we just looking at weird promotional artwork or a presentation demonstrating a massive change in the world of Azeroth?
Could Classic+ Keep Its Eyes on Azeroth?
The next step in the image’s interpretation is crystal-clear: A continuation of Classic focussing on Azeroth could result in not following the familiar path into Outland, which was covered by World of Warcraft’s first original expansion, The Burning Crusade. Needless to say, this promotional art would showcase fantastic pictorial language, honoring the original idea of leaving Azeroth and the iconic status the Dark Portal has gained over the decades.

Back to the original topic: Gigabyte and NVIDIA are both official sponsors of BlizzCon, so this teaser definitely looks legit and planned but could mean something other than a hint at new game content such as Warcraft-themed hardware, for example. However, AORUS’ posts got deleted shortly after posting with reasons remaining unknown, further fueling speculations about a possible in-game relation.
Only three more sleeps until BlizzCon and until we find out what this image was supposed to mean in the first place. What is Blizzard’s plan? Are they going to keep us on Azeroth … FOREVER?
