During a recent discussion about World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard addressed its plans for holiday events, indicating that the familiar festivities aren’t something the developers are looking to change. Frank Williams, Blizzard’s Principal Software Engineer, states, “I don’t think there’s too much different necessarily at launch” in reference to the upcoming in-game holidays.
For veteran players who are hoping to revisit Azeroth’s traditions that made the OG experience memorable, this could be welcome news.
Blizzard Wants to Keep Holiday Events Familiar
Holiday events with guildies and friends alike have been a longstanding pastime in World of Warcraft, giving us seasonal activities, limited-time rewards to claim, and reasons to revisit some of the most iconic locations throughout the year.
Rather than reinventing the wheel, Blizzard appears to want to keep the holiday experience as it stands intact and familiar to those who have ventured into the world before. Williams mentioned, “One of the things we really focused on was building a solid foundation.” For players who were around for SoD, layering issues were prominent during massive PvP events.
This made the team do a complete overhaul of the layering system and world-state system to ensure no similar hiccups occur during holiday event periods.
Williams does mention that they are looking ahead and planning on doing large-scale holiday event changes, but for now and the foreseeable future, World of Warcraft: Forever holidays will remain just as we remember them.
What Does This Mean for WoW Forever Players?
Keeping these celebrations unchanged would allow WoW: Forever to retain another part of the original World of Warcraft experience without introducing unnecessary changes to an already established system. Plus, we have much to look forward to in terms of changes already in progress, like the account-wide Legacy system and the new ruleset mechanic.
With World of Warcraft: Forever approaching its November 4 launch, Blizzard is continuing to clarify which parts of the experience will remain familiar and where players can expect something new.
