Get WoW Forever Ready to Play – Pre-Install Your Addons Early

The day is finally here—WoW Forever launches TODAY! Whilst you’re preparing yourself for launch (see our pre-launch checklist), did you know you can pre-install your addons before the game launches? Here’s how!

Pre-Installing the Game

Before we can download any addons, you’ll want to pre-install the game. If the install button is greyed out, here’s how to work around that.

For Windows, open command prompt (Windows key + R) and type the following (replace C: with whatever drive you have Battle.net.exe installed in):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net\Battle.net.exe" --game=WoWF --install

For Mac users, open a Terminal window and type (given Battle.net.app is installed in the default location):

/Applications/Battle.net.app/Contents/MacOS/Battle.net --game=WoWF --install

Battle.net should then start installing the 12GB file (so make sure you have space for it!)

Download Your Addons

Once you have the game installed, you can start installing your addons! If you choose to do this through the CurseForge or Wago apps, they now have their own Forever sections.

If you prefer to install your addons manually, you’ll be able to install them into the following folder:

World of Warcraft/_forever_/Interface/AddOns

Download your addon, unzip the file, and drag into the Addons folder. Restart or /reload WoW and hopefully your addon should work! If not, make sure to check Load out of date addons in the Esc > AddOns menu in-game.

Hopefully, the launch goes smoothly and nothing breaks, but it’s important to remember that addons will most likely need updating soon after the game is released. Happy adventuring!
