A few days ago we highlighted some of the updated gear in the Scarlet Monastery dungeons in World of Warcraft: Forever. At the time, we weren’t 100% sure how the Chain of the Scarlet Crusade set would be changed. We can now confirm exactly how the bonus works, and what stats the updated pieces have.
The Set Bonus
There are six pieces in the set: Belt, Boots, Chest, Hands, Legs, and Wrists. In Classic, the set bonus gave you +10 Armor, +1 Defense, +5 Shadow Resistance, 1% Hit Chance, and +15 Attack Power against Undead. While some of those stats stayed (and a couple got buffed), the really interesting part of the updated set bonus is the two brand new effects.

The Four-Set bonus is called Enraging Light, and can proc whenever you take damage. When it does, your attacks deal 20 additional Holy damage for 10 seconds, and three times as much against Undead.
The Six-Set bonus is called Scarlet Guardian, and also procs when you take damage, but only when you are at or below 20% health and only once every 4 minutes. The proc gives you a shield for 480 damage, for up to 10 seconds.
This updated set really fits the Scarlet Crusade’s vibe: slightly masochistic, and very focused on revenge. Enraging Light also doesn’t have an internal cooldown, and with a 15% proc chance on all incoming damage, you are likely to see very high uptime on this buff while tanking!
The Stats
The set bonus isn’t the only thing that got a glow-up. The items themselves have also gotten buffs, especially the three pieces that used to be Greens (Belt, Hands, and Wrists). While this has always been a very highly sought-after set for Mail wearers like Warriors, Paladins, and Enhancement Shamans, these buffs definitely help make it even more popular.

The Problem: Will Anyone Farm the Set?
Getting any full leveling dungeon set is a big time commitment, but in Classic it was almost always worth it since you were gaining Experience at the same time as you were farming for the items. It might even have been the fastest way to level! But that’s not looking like it’s going to be the case in WoW: Forever.
Dungeon Experience has been a hot topic for the past few days, as Blizzard decided to drastically decrease the experience gained from both mobs in dungeons as well as the experience from quests. Their reasoning is that they want players out in the world, exploring and interacting with other players.

So with this nerf to dungeon leveling, will players actually bother to farm for this set? Running these dungeons can take a long time depending on your group, and we’ve already seen some attitudes on the Beta of players wanting to skip as many mobs as possible in their dungeon runs. That could spell disaster as some of these pieces drop from trash in the dungeons. The set is strong, that’s for sure, but is it worth losing hours of leveling over?
Like all things on the Beta, experience gain is not set in stone. We will have to wait until launch to see the final tuning. But in my opinion, it would be a shame to not see this set out in the world.
