Two New Stars Rise in Damage and Popularity! The Most Played and Best-Performing Specs in the Venomous Abyss: Week 3 Raid Logs

Starym's Avatar by Starym

A new star is rising in the damage department, while a different spec is rapidly climbing the popularity charts. Week 3 brings stability in terms of no class tuning, so the below chars will likely be the status quo for the coming week at least. The charts are very different than the previous week, however, so let’s get to it!

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Note 2: Warcraft Logs bundled the Lair boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, from the Tidebound Grotto into the Venomous Abyss rankings, which means the logs from here affect the overall rankings you can see below.

Heroic Venomous Abyss

There’s a lot more players this week once again, as the numbers grow by 30ish% pretty much from top to bottom spec. Speaking of the top spec, Arcane is pulling ahead even more, with over 100,000 more players than the next spec! And while the overall players for Arms did rise, it’s getting hunted down very efficiently, with fellow 2-hander melee Retribution halving the Warrior’s advantage since last week. It seems players got word that Demonology is doing really well in the logs and hopped on board, as it rises four whole spots into 4th. Beast Mastery is still the top Hunter, despite Marksmanship doing much better in the actual logs below.

Unholy only drops one spot, despite being near the bottom of the damage logs themselves. As far as the bottom 3, nothing’s changed and Fire, Survival, and Affliction keep on suffering between 3.5 and 9k players.

Overall Damage 95th Percentile

While Arcane very much at the top of the popularity chart, a new star is rising in the top percentiles. Marksmanship eclipses the Mage, moving one up straight to the top, and actually has a bit of a lead as well. Demo and Arms remain firm below the top two, but we see Balance make a huge leap, 11 spots into 5th. The Rogues are still gathered in the slightly lower end of the top 10. Well, the solidly performing ones at least, as we see Outlaw drop off a bit, even further away from the top 10. Devastation isn’t looking too good, but it’s still holding on, three spots down in 8th. We almost see all three Warlocks in the top 10, but Destro just barely doesn’t make the cut.

Overall Damage All Percentiles

Marksmanship pulls off the same thing here as in the top percentiles, as it and Demo rise one spot. Balance is doing very well here as well, sitting in 7th with an 8-spot rise. Enhancement drops out of the top 10, losing three spots to Ret, Affliction, and Balance. The bottom 3 get quite the turnover, with Fury dropping to the very end of the chart, joined by Frost, with Feral remaining there from last week.

Damage to Bosses

We see where the Hunter gets its juice, as Marksmanship rises three spots to take over the direct damage chart from the Rogues and Warrior.

Individual Bosses

Nymrissa Wavecaller (Tidebound Grotto Lair)

Nymrissa is listed as belonging to the Venomous Abyss on WCLogs.

Sszorak

The Rogues lose their full top 3 dominance, as Marksmanship intrudes and almost clinches the top spot.

The Twin Fangs

It’s Arms country in the cleavy-est encounter, but the Warlocks are holding on, despite this being the only boss Frost Mage actually rose on this week.

The Coiled Altar

Warlocks, DKs, and Rogues get double specs in the top 10 here.

Ula’tek

Assassination is still reigning supreme, just as it did on the World First kill logs, as the amped damage heart phases carry it into a large lead.

A Peek at Mythic

The numbers may be rapidly rising for Mythic, but it’s still very low in total. While the top spec in Heroic has over 300,000 logs, we see that same spec here with 14,000. That’s still a huge increase over last week’s 3,500, but it will take a long while before we see significant numbers out of Mythic. When it comes to the actual specs, they’re surprisingly solid, with Devourer dropping a little, Elemental rising, and Ret breaking into the top 10.

Overall Damage, All Percentiles

While Demo is still on top, Balance’s surge is giving it a solid run for its money, as it gains four spots to land in 2nd place. Frost Mage is also doing extremely better than in Heroic, sitting in the top 3 instead of the bottom, actually outperforming its fellow Mage. Fury is still down in the dumps, however, now joined by Unholy and Beast Mastery.
