Genshin Impact’s new Stygian Onslaught endgame mode has raised more than a few eyebrows among endgame players with its steep DPS requirements, especially in the “secret” Dire VI difficulty tier. A chart circulating from the community breaks down just how much effective damage per second you need to clear each of the game’s major combat challenges – and the numbers are staggering.
Posted to the official Genshin Impact Subreddit by Jechto, this chart shows you exactly how much DPS is required to defeat the Secret Source Automaton in the various endgame modes that Genshin Impact has to offer. That being Spiral Abyss, Imaginarium Theater and Stygian Onslaught.

To complete Stygian Onslaught Dire’s bosses in 60s, you’ll need a whopping 248,610 DPS, significantly more than anything Spiral Abyss or Imaginarium Theater throws at you. To “fully clear” this mode, the total clear time from all 3 bosses needs to be under 180s meaning 60s each boss. However, this is only required for the 5-Star weapon skin.
To unlock the 4-Star weapon skin, the more forgiving 120-second Dire mode clocks in at over 124,000 DPS. For context, Spiral Abyss Floor 12 tops out at around 50,000 DPS for a 90-second clear, while some of the lowest DPS checks, like Onslaught Hard, sit at a mere 9,167 DPS. Hard mode being what is required to farm artifacts in Stygian.
It is worth noting however, that different endgame content has different buffs and different restrictions. Imaginarium Theater mainly tests how “wide” your account is, compared to Abyss which moreso checks how “tall” your account is in terms of investment.
Stygian Onslaught 5.7 GuideSo, is Stygian Onslaught for Whales Only?
At first glance, these higher thresholds seem gated behind whales-only accounts. But while investment is absolutely required, we’re seeing growing proof that they’re not entirely paywalled. Players have been able to clear Stygian Onslaught Dire VI’s difficulty with just C0 R1 characters, however this can take many attempts and incredibly optimised rotations. This does mean that players with C0 characters can unlock the 4-Star weapon skins at the very least.
It’s not easy, and you’ll need characters at or near their peak potential, but it’s possible. Furthermore, you do still need a very specific roster of characters with the vast majority of clears on the third boss being Skirk, Escoffier and Furina related.
What Rewards Are You Missing Out On If You Cannot Clear Dire Difficulty?
Honestly, not a lot. All of the available Primogems from Stygian Onslaught come from Normal, Advancing and Hard difficulty. This means that no player is ever missing out on pulls!
Stygian Onslaught also offers several ways to obtain Dust of Enlightenments for rerolling artifacts. These are from:
- Clearing Menacing Difficulty
- Clearing Fearless solo
- Spending 1,200 resin to farm artifacts inside Stygian over the first 10 days
Even without clearing Dire difficulty, you can obtain all the available Dust of Enlightenment. Even if your current account is not ready to clear higher difficulties, Menacing difficulty can be cleared in Co-Op!
Most importantly, however and the biggest source of controversy, the Weapon Skins. These are the cool new cosmetic available. It is worth noting that these skins are not permanent. At the end of the patch all players will lose these skins until the clear Stygian again. We also do not know if it will be the same skins next patch either.
Weapon Skins in Genshin ImpactThat being said, it is a safe assumption to believe that skins will come from other sources in the future and it is incredibly unlikely that this will stay as a whale-only feature.
