Dust of Enlightenment is a powerful new item in Genshin Impact that allows players to reshape the substat enhancements of a fully leveled 5-star Artifact (reroll an artifact stats). Whether you're chasing perfect Crit substats or trying to fix a great main stat piece that rolled badly, this item gives you another shot at perfection.

1.

What Is Dust of Enlightenment?

Dust of Enlightenment is a special currency introduced in Version 5.7. It is primarily obtained through limited-time content such as Stygian Onslaught and from the Battle Pass.

This item is used specifically to reallocate the upgrade rolls on a fully leveled 5-star Artifact's Minor Affixes - in other words, the substats that receive boosts when enhancing an Artifact to +20.

3 dusts per patch will be given out through Stygian Onslaught while 2 of them are easier, the final dust requires difficulty 5 which is close to/harder than abyss floor 12. 5 are expected through the Battle Pass giving you 8 dust total per patch. This also means it would take 2 patches to max out a single Hallowed Exegesis.

If you have a promising piece that unfortunately rolled into flat Defense or HP, this lets you gamble again for better stats like Crit Rate, Crit DMG, or Energy Recharge. Of course, what stats are most important entirely depends on your build.

How to Use Dust of Enlightenment

You can access this feature directly from the Artifact menu. Select the fully leveled 5-star Artifact you want to reshape and look for the “Reshape” button in the bottom right corner. You can reroll as many times as you would like.

When using 1 Dust of Enlightenment, you'll be prompted to select two substats you'd like to prioritize. These two chosen substats are guaranteed to receive at least two upgrades combined during the reshaping.

The remaining upgrades will be randomized, but there's a decent chance they'll hit one of your preferred stats. If the reshaped Artifact still isn't what you want, you can reject the new result and keep the original.

Genshin Artifact rerolling substat choices

The artifact does not roll your "guaranteed" substats first. It rolls randomly until the final 2 substat rolls. If 1/2 of your chosen substats have already been selected, you are not guaranteed an extra. This means that your chances of getting more than 2 rolls aren’t really any higher, consider it as more of a "pity" and guarantees you will always gain 2 good rolls.

Dust of Enlightenment Costs

Different pieces have different dust costs too with the artifact pieces that are generally considered more valuable, costing extra dust:

  • / - 1 Dust
  • // - 2 Dusts

The amount of dusts spent contribute towards your Hallowed Exegesis points tracking.

3.

What Is Hallowed Exegesis?

Each time you consume Dust of Enlightenment, you'll earn a fixed amount of progress toward Hallowed Exegesis - a special gauge that tracks your Artifact reshaping attempts.

Hallowed Exegesis example in Genshin Impact

At 6 and 18 Hallowed Exegesis, you will gain increased amounts of artifact rolls:

  • 6 - 3 rolls guaranteed
  • 12 - 3 rolls guaranteed still
  • 18 - 4 rolls guaranteed

This could be game-changing for players seeking ultra-optimized gear, so it's worth investing in reshaping pieces that are close to being perfect.

When Should You Reroll Artifacts?

With resources being limited, it is important to be considerate of what you spend your rerolls on. A good general rule to go by would be to spend dusts on artifacts that have as many useful substats as possible! The main ones being pieces that have 3 useful stats and 1 bad stat (like a piece with both Crits and ER, yet it rolled into flat HP 4 times).

For some characters, this system will not be very useful. For example Nilou who only really wants HP % or Kaedehara Kazuha who only really wants ER% and EM. Your best artifacts will at best have 1-2 useful substats on them giving you only a 25-50% chance of rerolling into stats that are useful.

Another important rule is to target artifacts which started with 4 substats. Some artifacts start with 4 substats while many only start with 3, but you only get the same amount of rolls per piece. Rerolling an artifact that started with 4 substats allows you to reroll 5 total stat upgrades while rerolling an artifact that started with 3 substats only allows you to reroll 4 total stat upgrades.
